The cosmetics brand she launched in recent years shows how she has been expanding beyond the entertainment industry.

Aggressive pursuit from a businessman

Three years after the sensational messy divorce that shook the public—Mariko Shinoda (40), once one of the “Kami 7” members of AKB48, suddenly announced her remarriage at the end of March.

After graduating from AKB48, Shinoda married a non-celebrity man in 2019, and the following year gave birth to their first daughter. She continued her entertainment activities, but in the summer of 2022, cracks began to appear in the marriage.

“A conflict arose when her businessman husband suspected Shinoda of infidelity and left the house with their child. In addition, various data such as audio recordings of marital arguments—allegedly evidence of cheating—were leaked on social media, causing a major scandal. At one point, it even seemed like it could escalate into a court battle, but the ex-husband later announced the divorce, saying, ‘I have decided to believe Mariko.’ The divorce was finalized in March 2023. Shinoda retained custody of their daughter and resumed her entertainment career, living with her child,” said a sports newspaper entertainment reporter.

In 2024, her agency “SOMEDAY” went bankrupt, adding more turmoil to her life. Meanwhile, she also took on a new challenge as an actress, including bold, intense love scenes in the drama The Divorced Man—Deceptive Love Between a Betrayed Husband and a Wicked Wife (TV Asahi), which was reminiscent of her own past scandal.

It was during this period that she met the man who would later become her husband.

“After her divorce, Shinoda prioritized her daughter above all else and lived a life centered around her child. She was said to be very cautious about remarriage,” said an entertainment reporter.

So what changed her mind?

“Her new husband is businessman Koji Asano (46). The two met through a mutual acquaintance, but even before meeting her, he openly said ‘Mariko Shinoda is my ideal type’ and was a big fan. However, he is not the typical flashy celebrity-chasing wealthy executive—he is more of a hardcore work-oriented businessman who pursued her with intense determination,” said an IT industry insider.

Although their relationship began in 2024, Shinoda was initially reluctant to marry.

“Still, Asano never gave up,” the insider continues.

“He kept saying, ‘I will support Shinoda and her daughter for life as family,’ and his sincerity gradually moved her. Seeing how naturally he treated her daughter like his own child became the deciding factor. He also treated his former wife and her child with the same sincerity, which reassured Shinoda. After about a year and a half of living together, they finally got married this March.”

Even after remarriage, she will continue her acting career. She is set to appear in upcoming spring dramas such as The Betrayed Wife’s Revenge—Women Who Form an Alliance (TV Tokyo), as well as another series starting in July, along with an upcoming film release.

“Having learned from her first marriage, which was a zero-day courtship marriage, she took a more cautious approach this time, including a year-and-a-half cohabitation period. Her remarriage announcement was also simple, posted only on Instagram. It feels much more grounded,” said an entertainment agency executive.

With her partner’s strong fatherly presence, this so-called fan marriage became a miracle. This time, we wish them lasting happiness.
