Ami Suzuki Returns as One-Day Police Chief After 18 Years Smiling in Knee-Length Pencil Skirt with Timeless Style
First Time in 18 Years as One-Day Police Chief
“AmiGo! Do your best!”
The loud cheers, which even made a female officer sitting nearby laugh, were met with a smiling wave from talent and singer Ami Suzuki (44).
On March 21, Machida Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department held an event to promote traffic safety ahead of the “Spring Traffic Safety Campaign” starting April 6, and welcomed Suzuki as a one-day police chief. Wearing a knee-length tight skirt, Suzuki maintained the same style she had as an idol, and her shy smile remained just as it had been during her “Ami~Go” era. Holding a microphone, she said:
“Please take another look at the traffic rules, help prevent accidents, and make sure no one gets hurt. We appreciate your cooperation.”
At the event venue in front of Machida Station, participants learned about traffic rules through a quiz competition, including how to safely cross crosswalks.
During a press conference, Suzuki said:
“It’s been a really long time. I never thought I’d be able to wear the uniform again after turning 40, so I’m truly honored.”
She expressed joy at taking on the role of one-day police chief for the first time in 18 years. Afterwards, she led a parade along a main street, with longtime fans cheering continuously from the roadside.
“Ami Suzuki is from Zama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, about six kilometers from Machida City. Machida is a city full of memories for her; at the talk event, she mentioned that the first time she took a train to go out was to Machida, and it was a place from my youth,” said an event attendee.
Now a mother of three, Suzuki added:
“I drive almost every day, so I’m conscious of traffic rules. I often go out with my children, so we talk about them, and they seem to like it too.”
In fact, the female police officer sitting next to Suzuki at the start of the event was her mom friend. The invitation to participate came from this friend. Suzuki called her friend, who had been waiting in the background, saying:
“She’s actually my first mom friend. Both my eldest and second sons are the same age as her kids, and she recommended this event. Right now, the kids are with their dad playing baseball,” she said with a laugh.
After the event, the two likely changed into casual clothes to pick up their children. Ami~Go’s return as a police officer after 18 years seemed to be a fine move by her mom friend.
