Man Arrested After Home Invasion and Screwdriver Attack as Chilling Post-Arrest Image Emerges
That’s incorrect
A large-built man emerging from the police station’s transfer exit showed an intimidating attitude toward the press. The suspect fixed a piercing glare on the cameras. The published photos capture his chilling appearance immediately after his arrest and during transfer.
On March 18, the Sakura Police Station of the Chiba Prefectural Police arrested Yuichi Kiuchi (61), an unemployed man from Yachimata City, on suspicion of attempted murder. Around noon that day, a 110 emergency call was received from a local resident:
“My neighbor broke in and stabbed my husband in the neck.”
Police officers who rushed to the scene subdued Kiuchi, who was still there.
According to reports, Kiuchi suddenly entered the house and stabbed a 43-year-old man living there in the neck with a screwdriver-like tool. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital and fortunately sustained only minor injuries. However, depending on the location of the wound, it could have been fatal.
Similar incidents have reportedly occurred in Yachimata City. Multiple emergency calls such as “A man is going on a rampage” and “Someone has been stabbed” were made, and at least three people were injured. Kiuchi had frequent disputes with nearby residents, and police believe he may be involved in these incidents as well. During questioning, he has denied the charges, stating, “That’s incorrect.”
Former Kanagawa Prefectural Police detective and crime journalist Taihei Ogawa offered the following analysis:
“There are two key points. First, whether there was a serious neighborhood dispute that led the suspect to develop intent to kill. If this incident is an extension of such trouble, the relationship between the suspect and the residents needs to be carefully examined. It must also be questioned whether the conflict could have been resolved before escalating into a crime.
Second is the suspect himself. He may have been under significant mental and physical strain due to financial hardship or family issues. Of course, that does not justify suddenly attacking multiple people, but a thorough psychiatric evaluation will likely be necessary.”
The incident took place in a quiet residential area about 4 kilometers southwest of JR Yachimata Station. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the attempted murder in what is usually a peaceful neighborhood.
