Riho Yoshioka Films Latest Leading Movie at Miura Beach Revealing Serious Acting While Hiding Her Cheerful Character

It has been revealed that actors Riho Yoshioka (33) and Nao (31) will co-star in the upcoming movie “Shadow Work” (directed by Ryuhei Yoshino), set for release later this year.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Hirozumi Sano, winner of the 66th Edogawa Rampo Prize.

“Yoshioka plays Noriko, who has suffered domestic violence from her husband on a daily basis. She is brought to a secluded facility called ‘Ouchi’ at the edge of Miura Beach, and through life there, she begins to reclaim her true self.

Meanwhile, Nao plays Kaoru, a detective who, while investigating the circumstances of a deceased woman, eventually arrives at ‘Ouchi.’ The crime suspense story portrays domestic violence in Japan from the perspectives of these two women,” explained a film magazine writer.

FRIDAY Digital captured scenes from filming last year at Miura Beach in Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Despite the lingering summer heat and strong sunlight, Yoshioka appeared accompanied by the staff.

She wore a simple outfit of a short-sleeved white shirt and black pants. Her expression was darker than her usual bright demeanor, suggesting she may have already been in character.

At one point, filming took place of Yoshioka walking out from Miura Beach Station in costume, followed by scenes of her getting into a car. Nao, her co-lead, was apparently not present that day.

“After finishing filming the highly praised NHK late-night drama ‘Hirayasu-mi’ between November and December last year, Yoshioka immediately started shooting this film. In ‘Hirayasu-mi’, she played a stressed-out office worker at a real estate company in a comedic tone.

She will also appear in the NHK Taiga drama ‘Toyotomi Brothers!’ starting March 29, playing Chika, the wife of Hideyoshi’s brother (played by Taiga Nakano, 33), rumored to be a very eccentric character. Yoshioka has spent over a year almost continuously acting in different dramas and movies, portraying completely different characters, which is truly impressive,” said a television magazine writer.

In a comment video on the movie’s official website, Yoshioka greeted fans:

“I built the world of ‘Shadow Work’ together with Nao, whom I trust, and with the uniquely talented cast whose participation will be announced. I hope everyone will watch with bated breath.”
