Def Tech’s Micro Arrest Sends Shockwaves Through Former V6 Fan Community

Micro and Ken Miyake’s connection
Micro (45) of the music duo Def Tech was arrested on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Law (possession). The arrest came just before Def Tech’s 20th-anniversary concert at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, prompting widespread shock online. In this context, fans of Ken Miyake (46), a former member of V6, have reportedly expressed concern.
Micro, whose real name is Yuki Nishimiya, was caught on February 2 at his Shibuya home with several grams of dried cannabis and was arrested on the spot by the Kanto-Shin’etsu Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare’s Narcotics Control Division. A search of Nishimiya’s residence, following reports of drug possession, reportedly uncovered the dried cannabis. He was formally indicted on February 20.
Def Tech is a unit formed in 2001 by Micro and Shen (44), who was raised in Hawaii. Their song My Way (2005) became a huge hit, though the group announced its breakup in September 2007. They reunited in 2010 and continued musical activities consistently. Def Tech had planned a 20th-anniversary concert at Nippon Budokan on February 8 this year, but it was canceled following Micro’s arrest.
While fans looking forward to the concert were saddened, V6 fans also watched the news of Micro’s arrest with mixed feelings. Micro had previously been in charge of writing and producing Ken Miyake’s solo song “Kanashii hodo ni A-I-Do-Ru ~Glass no Kutsu~” on the Limited Edition B of V6’s 2010 album READY?.
He also wrote the lyrics for Coming Century’s song Get Naked (Coming Century being a V6 subunit consisting of Miyake, Tsuyoshi Morita [46], and Junichi Okada [45]). After V6 disbanded, Micro contributed lyrics and composition to Miyake’s solo mini-album NEWWW (2022), including the track Answer. When the album became available on streaming services the following year, a previously unreleased song by Micro titled Kono Naka de was also released digitally.
After leaving the old Johnny & Associates on May 2, 2023, Miyake joined the talent agency TOBE, led by Hideaki Takizawa (43). In January of the following year, he released his second digital single iDOLING, reuniting with Micro, who worked on a song positioned as a sequel to his previous solo track Kanashii hodo ni A-I-Do-Ru.
Because It’s a Special Song
“Since he had contributed to the song, Micro appeared as a guest on Ken Miyake’s YouTube live stream on May 30, 2024. However, after Micro’s arrest was reported, when the archive of that live stream was checked, it displayed ‘This video cannot be played. This video is private,’ and it is currently no longer viewable. Perhaps the management decided to make it private in response to the arrest.” (entertainment writer)
Additionally, on a live stream on January 25 of the same year, Miyake looked back on how he first met Micro. Over ten years ago, there was a year-end party at the home of Mr.Children drummer Hideya Suzuki (56), and Miyake happened to meet Micro there and hit it off. Micro said, “Let’s do something together,” which led Miyake to request him to work on a solo track for his album.
“On the day of recording Kanashii hodo ni A-I-Do-Ru, it went on until nearly dawn. There’s also a behind-the-scenes story that we listened to the newly finished track in Micro’s car on the way home. V6 disbanded on November 1, 2021, but Micro collaborated on the lyrics and composition for Let Me in the album STEP, released that September. Recognizing his musical talent, Miyake reflected, ‘I had never had anyone provide lyrics or music for the six of us. I had wanted at least once to have someone contribute lyrics and music, and at the very end, it finally happened.’ He praised him highly, saying, ‘Everything he makes is full of great songs,’ and ‘Micro is a genius,’ and seemed satisfied with the finished result of the new track iDOLING.” (same source).
The previously mentioned tracks Get Naked and Let Me likely became projects Micro worked on because of his connection with Miyake. Because of this, fans who learned of his arrest were dismayed:
〈I wonder if the V6-related songs will be okay. I’m worried〉
〈I was surprised because I liked the V6 songs Micro made〉
〈Ken, this must be shocking iDOLING and Kanashii hodo ni A-I-Do-Ru are special songs for Ken and the fans. I want to see Ken perform them again〉
〈I’m shocked because he made such good songs for Ken. He shouldn’t have touched drugs. It’s so disappointing〉
“TOBE has held joint concerts with its affiliated artists every year since 2024. iDOLING, which symbolizes Miyake’s idol qualities, has been performed for two consecutive years. However, with this year’s concert scheduled for April–May, some fans are worried that it might be removed from the setlist” (same source).
Going forward, will Miyake seal off the songs by Micro that he was close to, or will he continue to perform them with the belief that the songs themselves are innocent?
