Despite Weight Loss Reports, Minami Hamabe Stuns in a Cute White Blouse at Movie Premiere
A tender, affectionate expression
“Everyday life passes by so quickly, but I hope that when people pause for a moment and think of this film, it will help them love the small, ordinary moments in life with all their heart,” said Hamabe Minami.
On January 13, a completion stage greeting for the film Hodokunaku, Owakare desu (scheduled for release on February 6) was held at the large live house Toyosu PIT in Koto, Tokyo. Director Takahiro Miki (51) and the main cast attended. Hamabe (25), co-starring with Snow Man’s Meguro Ren (28), delivered the opening greeting.
“This film is based on the novel of the same name by Nagatsuki Amane, which won the Shogakukan Bunko Novel Awardand has sold over 400,000 copies. Hamabe plays Shimizu Miku, a heroine who can communicate with the deceased and works as an intern at a funeral company, aiming to create the perfect funeral alongside Reiji Urushibara, a certified mortician and funeral planner played by Meguro,” explained a film magazine writer.
When Hamabe was offered the role, she commented:
“I had never really faced the concept of death in my acting before, so I was a little uneasy at first. But Director Miki gave me a letter beforehand asking me to value the feelings when dealing with bereaved families and the deceased, so I focused on my own emotions rather than overthinking it.” (Toho Movies official X)
True to her words, Hamabe’s natural performance—gently supporting the deceased and their families—has received high praise.
On the day of the event, Hamabe appeared in a striking white blouse and black skirt, her fairy-like appearance captivating the audience.
On January 4, she had posted on X, saying, “Happy New Year food poisoning!” revealing that she had been unwell at the start of the year. Because of this, there were concerns about her noticeable weight loss.
During the stage greeting, Kosuke Suzuki (51), who plays Miku’s father, addressed Hamabe:
“Since Miku is such a hardworking person right? It was really good. The family feeling was nice.”
Hamabe responded with a sweet, daughter-like expression:
“He recommended I do a full health check during my spare time… paying attention to my health.”
Co-star Kotone Furukawa (29) also praised Hamabe:
“Hamabe-san is really fresh. Her cuteness, her comedic timing the warmth of this theme comes from her energy.”
Hamabe’s shy smile at the compliment enchanted the audience.
Currently, Hamabe is also appearing in NHK’s historical drama Toyotomi Kyodai! as Nene, the principal wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (played by Sosuke Ikematsu, 35), marking another busy year ahead. Fans hope she continues to captivate audiences while maintaining her health.
