Height 158 cm. Despite being unable to fly due to agoraphobia, she has delivered results in the limited matches she could play and impressively regained her seeded status for 2026. On January 17, she held a live performance in Higashi-Ueno, and in February, her long-awaited debut single is set to be released.

Both completely focused!

“To an endless~~future~~”

Tokyo on Christmas Eve was filled with a festive atmosphere. In a pastel-colored studio packed with balloons and dreams, a high-tone voice rang out clearly. The pop melody was unmistakably a classic idol song. But the person holding the microphone was unexpected: 25-year-old professional golfer Nana Suganuma.

With three wins on the domestic women’s tour, she has captivated fans with her confident putting and cheerful personality. Now, she is attempting an unprecedented dual career in the golf world. On February 18, she will release her first single, “I Want to Be Your Savior!”, marking her idol debut. On this day, a music video shoot was taking place in a Tokyo studio.

During breaks, Suganuma repeatedly checked her dance on the monitor. When the choreographer offered advice such as, “When holding a long tone, stretch your arms as much as possible. It will make the dance look better,” she silently nodded and carefully repeated the movements to improve reproducibility. Her expression was as serious as it is on the golf course.

Honestly, I expected, “Even a top athlete’s dancing will be at an amateur level,” but that assumption was overturned within minutes. Every arm movement was precise, right down to her fingertips, and full of energy. Her rhythm was exact. The choreographer said, “At first, I prepared a simple dance focusing on hand movements, but Suganuma-san said, ‘Make it more difficult’ (laughs). So we made it a full-body dance. She memorized it after just a few tries, which was amazing.”

Suganuma herself, slightly embarrassed, said:
“I took dance lessons from first grade for six years, but I really had no sense for it. Now, I just memorize a bit of choreography from my favorite idols. But if I was going to do it, I wanted it to be the best I could.”

The shoot, which began at 9:30 a.m., continued until 8 p.m., with set changes along the way. She must have been tired, but whenever the camera pointed at her, she responded with a smile. The exceptional fan service she is known for as a popular golfer did not change, even on a studio set.

After finishing the MV shoot, Suganuma finally showed a relieved expression. “I’m so nervous! (laughs) It’s harder than golf!” she said, laughing.

“For example, on a par-5 golf course, you can recover from a small mistake, but with singing and dancing, you can’t make a single mistake. The hardest part was singing with emotion. I quickly got the pitch right, but putting feeling into it is really difficult! My vocal coach told me, ‘Sing as exaggeratedly as you want,’ and I’ve gradually learned the tricks.”

In the January 16 release of FRIDAY January 30 & February 6 Combined Issue and the paid edition FRIDAY GOLD, she candidly talks about behind-the-scenes stories leading up to her debut, days when she faced criticism from detractors, and her aspirations for the year as a dual career idol and golfer.
