Endless ~~ Continuing into the Future~~”
Tokyo on Christmas Eve was filled with the Christmas mood. The pastel-colored studio, filled with balloons and dreams, was filled with the echoes of their high tone voices. The pop melody line was that of a “royal idol song. However, the microphone was held by an unexpected person. It is Nana Suganuma, 25, a professional women’s golfer.
She has won a total of three times on the women’s tour in Japan. She has attracted fans with her strong putting and innocent character, but what she is challenging is an unprecedented “two-faced” style in the golf world. On February 18, she will release her first single, “I want to be your savior! and will make her debut as an idol. On that day, a music video was being shot at a studio in Tokyo.
In between takes, Suganuma repeatedly checked her dance moves on the monitor. The choreographer told her, “When you do the long tones, stretch your arms as wide as possible. She nodded silently and traced the same movements over and over again to improve the reproducibility. His expression was as serious as it had been during the round.
To be honest, I had thought that even top athletes were probably amateur dancers, but my preconceived notions were overturned in a few minutes. Even a single swing of the arms was dynamic, with attention to detail down to the fingertips. The rhythm was precise. The choreographer also commented, “At first, I prepared a simple dance that focused on hand movements, but Mr. Suganuma asked me to make it more difficult (laughs). (Laughs.) We decided on a dance that uses the whole body. I was surprised that they learned it after just a few times,” he said, rolling his eyes.
The dancer herself was a little embarrassed.
I took dance lessons for six years from the first grade of elementary school, but I really had no sense of dance. Now I can only learn a little choreography of my favorite idols. But since I was going to do it, I wanted to make it the best it could be.”
Filming began at 9:30 in the morning and continued until 8 pm, changing sets as they went. He must have been tired, but when the camera was pointed at him, he responded with a smile. The “divine response” that he usually shows as a popular golfer remained unchanged even when the field was turned into a studio.
After the music video shooting, Suganuma finally looked relieved and said, “I’m so nervous! (laugh) It’s harder than golf! (Laughs) It’s harder than golf!
If you play a par 5 course, for example, you can make up for any mistakes you make, but with singing and dancing, you can’t make a single mistake. The most difficult thing was to sing with feeling. I was able to get the pitches right away, but it was really difficult to put emotion into my singing! My voice training instructor told me, ‘It’s okay to sing exaggeratedly,’ so I gradually got the hang of it.
In the January 30/February 6 issue of “FRIDAY” and the paid version of “FRIDAY GOLD,” both of which went on sale on January 16, she talks candidly about her secret story leading up to her debut, her days of criticism from anti-competitors, and her ambitions for this year as a “two-faced” idol and golfer.
