“There’s Kaho!”

Yokohama Motomachi Shopping Street (Kanagawa Prefecture), which attracts not only local shoppers but also many tourists. Among them was a particularly eye-catching couple Kaho (34) and Ryuhei Matsuda (42).

In the daytime in mid-December, filming was taking place in the area for the Friday night drama “Detective, Your Backpack Is Open” (TV Asahi), which begins airing on January 9.

“This work is an original drama whose appeal lies in its ‘laid-back’ tone. Set in a small hot spring town, the protagonist Yosuke Ichinose, played by Matsuda—who takes over his father’s detective business while also having a side as an inventor—solves cases in eccentric ways. Kaho’s appearance was only reported on January 6, and her specific role is still unknown,” says a TV magazine writer.

Speaking of Kaho, in last January’s season she played a hotel employee who repeatedly displayed natural airheadedness in “Hot Spot” (Nippon TV). In the October drama “Then You Try Making It Yourself” (TBS), she portrayed a woman who loses herself after playing a “lover-first” type, earning high praise. That drama also became a major hit. She is steadily establishing her position as a comedienne, but what kind of role will she play in this new drama?

Returning to the opening scene: Kaho was wearing a cap and a thick down jacket, looking fully prepared against the cold. Matsuda, meanwhile, wore a leather jacket over a navy sweater. With a large backpack slung over his shoulders, he had the air of a domestic traveler. When the staff called out “Action!”, the two began walking side by side through the bustling crowd of passersby. Their slightly vacant expressions and relaxed manner gave off an unforced vibe, evoking the drama’s signature laid-back feel.

People watching from a distance noticed Kaho before Matsuda, and from all around came voices like “It’s Kaho!” “Kaho’s here!” and “So cute!”

With Matsuda’s easygoing presence in numerous comedy dramas and Kaho riding a wave of momentum right now, one can only look forward to seeing what kind of performances this pairing will deliver.
