Dragon Ash’s Kenji Furuya Opens Up About Life with 30-Year-Old Partner
25 Years of Hot Love Scoops: "After That Hot Love Scoop" DragonAsh's Kenshi Furuya and a "Beautiful Woman in Her 30s
The divorce between Kj, real name Kenji Furuya (46), the vocalist of the mixture rock band Dragon Ash, and actress and entrepreneur MEGUMI (44) was finalized in December 2023. One of the causes was said to be Furuya’s reported affair, which Shūkan Bunshun published in the summer of 2023. A year and a half later, Furuya has been living a cohabiting life with the woman in her 30s who was the other party in that affair — this looks back at the story based on an article distributed on July 29, 2025.

The familiar beauty is always by his side
At a supermarket in Tokyo, that scene has apparently become a familiar sight.
“I really like sazae [turban shell].”
The husky voice echoing through the grocery section belongs to Kj, also known as Kenji Furuya.
“Maybe he’s announcing the day’s menu, saying aloud what ingredients he wants to buy. He’s not broadcasting it to everyone, I guess (laughs), but being a top vocalist, his voice carries well and you can hear it. Sometimes he said things like, ‘Let’s get mung bean sprouts’ or ‘Let’s start with kimchi!’ You can almost imagine what he’s cooking that night. Anyway, it’s always fun to see him every time,” said a regular supermarket customer.
And another constant: a small-faced beauty is always next to him, shopping alongside Furuya.
Furuya, the eldest son of Showa-era actor Ikko Furuya, married actress and entrepreneur MEGUMI in 2008. In 2009, they had a son, Nagi (16), who is now an actor. Life seemed smooth and prosperous for the Furuya family, until summer 2023 after the COVID-19 pandemic. Shūkan Bunshun reported Furuya’s alleged affair.
“It was shocking: A woman in her early 30s, working as a hostess at a cabaret club in suburban Tokyo, was said to have been brought into the home he shared with MEGUMI. Furuya admitted the affair, and MEGUMI revealed that she was living separately because of it,” said an entertainment reporter for a sports paper.
In November 2023, Furuya revealed that he suffers from panic disorder. He canceled all shows on his live house tour and temporarily suspended activities. The following month, his 15-year marriage to MEGUMI came to an end.
However, a year and a half after the divorce, Furuya had started a new chapter in life.
“He changed cars, and it seems he even repainted the exterior of his home this year. I often see him going out and coming back with A-ko. I think they’re living together,” said a local resident.
Over the summer, FRIDAY also witnessed Furuya shopping several times at that same supermarket, always accompanied by a beauty believed to be A-ko.
“MEGUMI has a straightforward, blunt personality, whereas A-ko is more reserved. Furuya seems to adore her for that,” said an acquaintance of Furuya.
After Golden Week, there was a time when Furuya went shopping at his usual supermarket with his son Nagi, but it was quieter than usual (laughs), said the regular customer mentioned earlier.
Will Furuya remarry A-ko? He gave no response to questions from the magazine, but judging by Dragon Ash’s energetic performances at live shows and festivals, that day may not be far off.
〈I’ll continue my musical journey in my own way〉
Speaking of Furuya, he is known for regularly updating his Instagram and honestly sharing his feelings at the time.
On October 21, 2025, he posted:
〈I think a sense of balance is, in any world and on any field, a mark of an adult, but man, this is the hardest. No matter how many years you do it, it just never goes quite right — it’s a mystery〉
Furthermore, on November 25, 2025, he wrote:
〈I probably can’t be as strong or as kind as everyone else, but still, I’ll continue my musical journey in my own way〉
With posts like these, he revealed not only his thoughts as a musician but also the frustrations he feels as an adult.
On November 30, 2025, he posted a picture of ramen, writing:
〈Ramen that my son treated me to with his first paycheck from his part-time job. It was the best meal I’ve ever had in my life. Thank you, Nagi〉
Here, he shared his joy as a father. In 2026, there might be some new direction for him.
