Hana Sugisaki stars in the ’25 January drama “Winter Something, Spring Something”
Sugisaki’s smile never fades between takes
Wearing a checkered shirt, baggy jeans, and an oversized beige coat, her short bob hairstyle gives off a subtly “Showa retro” vibe. She is actress Hana Sugisaki (28).
In early December, filming for the ’26 January drama “Winter Something, Spring Something” (Nippon TV) was underway in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.
“The drama is an original love story written by director Rikiya Imaizumi (44). Imaizumi, known as a flagbearer of romance films, previously directed the 2019 film ‘Love Is What?’ starring Yukino Kishii (33) and the 2023 film ‘Chihiro-san’ starring Kasumi Arimura (32), and is recognized for bringing out the full charm of female leads. Sugisaki and Imaizumi previously collaborated in 2023 on the WOWOW Prime omnibus drama ‘Hana Sugisaki’s Shooting Break,’ making this their first project together since then,” a TV magazine writer explained.
Sugisaki plays Ayana Tsuchida, a 27-year-old novelist working part-time at a vintage clothing store. She has published two novels and is currently writing her third. While she has a boyfriend, she reflects on past relationships, asking, “When was the last time I could say ‘I love you’ sincerely?” and searches for the true meaning of love as she moves forward in life.
In the opening scene, Ayana visits a furniture store alone. Most of the subsequent filming took place indoors, so the inside wasn’t visible. During breaks outside, Sugisaki, wearing a bench coat, chatted with staff, radiating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Sugisaki shared her thoughts about the drama on Nippon TV’s program website:
“There are people who fall in love, people who don’t, people who don’t understand love well, and people who don’t want it. There are people still searching for who they are. Everyone has their own way of living.
I hope that viewers can see themselves, their families, and friends reflected in the diverse characters. I want people to be able to watch and relax, and we will also approach it with ease while putting our hearts into it.”
With Sugisaki teaming up once again with the flagbearer of romance director Imaizumi, expectations for this drama are sky-high.
