Ono’s Funny Faces Make Ishii Laugh Out Loud

Amid cold rain, the two women were chatting under a large umbrella—Karine Ono (27) and Anna Ishii (27).

They are currently appearing in the drama “When I Was Little, There Was God” (Fuji TV).

“This drama centers on families planning for divorce and tells the story of three families living in a three-story retro apartment building. Ono and Ishii play a cohabiting couple, Nao Higuchi (Ono) and Shiho Takamura (Ishii), who dream of one day owning a kitchen car together and starting their business.

Nao is sociable and cheerful, working at a super sento. Shiho is shy and quiet but gets along well with the apartment residents. Viewers will be watching to see if these two can achieve their dream,” said a TV magazine writer.

In late November, filming took place in the rain outside the Tokyo International Exchange Center in Odaiba (Koto Ward, Tokyo). Ono wore a purple sweater with a large scarf wrapped around her, while Ishii wore a gray cardigan and a large scarf over a mini-skirt, shivering slightly from the cold.

Despite the weather, the two seemed to enjoy themselves while waiting for the start of filming. Ono made expressive funny faces, which sent Ishii into loud laughter. Their camaraderie was evident not only on-screen but also in real life.

The two first worked together in the 2015 film Girls Step and have been close friends ever since. In an interview with Fuji TV’s entertainment news site Mezamashi Media on October 16, Ono shared her reaction upon learning she would be co-starring with Ishii:

“When we found out we’d be appearing together, Anna contacted me and said, ‘From now on, let’s go out and have lots of meals together,’ and we made that promise (laughs).”

Ishii added,

“I think there are many expressions I can show because I’m close with Karine.”
