<h3><span class="strongInContent"> Sentence handed down to defendant charged with four crimes.</span></h3>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> I&#8217;d take off work if I could play with a 13-year-old girl.</span></p>
<p> A 39-year-old man was sentenced for luring a 13-year-old junior high school girl he met on a matching app by sending her a message like this, and then taking her around for about three and a half hours.</p>
<p> Yuki Suzuki, a former medical office worker, was charged with four counts of kidnapping a minor, having non-consensual sexual intercourse with a junior high school girl, B (then 13 years old), photographing her sexual behavior, and violating the Law for Prohibition of Child Pornography.</p>

<p> On November 10, at Saitama District Court, presiding Judge Masahito Murohashi found <span class="strongInContent">that the defendant &#8220;let [Ms. A] leave the custody of her parents for about 3.5 hours,&#8221; and &#8220;committed the crime without thinking about the serious impact on the healthy growth of the 13-year-old victim [Ms. B], whom he met on a social networking service and whose judgment was not yet mature.</span> The court sentenced the defendant to <span class="strongInContent">five years in prison (six years is the recommended sentence)</span>.</p>
<p> Since around 2008, Suzuki had repeatedly contacted an unspecified number of women, including minors, through Internet bulletin boards and matching apps, and engaged in driving and sexual intercourse with them. In early April 2013, he met Ms. A on a matching app, and when they began communicating on LINE, Suzuki sent Ms. A a message following the one he had sent at the beginning of this report.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> There are junior high school students who are my friends, but it seems to be fun to play with money or go for a drive or something like that, so let&#8217;s play for real (laughs).</span></p>

<p> On April 7, he met up with Ms. A in Saitama City and roamed around Saitama Prefecture in a rented car for about three and a half hours. After that, defendant Suzuki drove Ms. A to the station she had designated.</p>
<p> It was discovered that Suzuki took Ms. A. when her mother checked the GPS on her smartphone. The indictment and opening statement read by the prosecutor spelled out how the parents noticed something unusual about Ms. A and immediately began to take action.</p>

However, when she checked the location information on Ms. A&#8217;s phone, she found that she was following an unnatural travel route in Saitama Prefecture, and she suspected that her daughter was meeting an adult male and traveling by car. So Ms. A&#8217;s father called the police; Ms. A&#8217;s father and mother followed the location of the phone and began a search for her. Subsequently, his father found Ms. A. alone in the park.&#8221;</span></p>
<p> Suzuki was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a minor on May 28. But the case did not end there. A video of Mr. Suzuki having sexual intercourse with Ms. B in his car was found on his smartphone.</p>

<p> He met Ms. B around late April after the crime against Ms. A. He also met her through a matching app. They met through a matching app. In late May, they had sexual intercourse in a rented car parked in a multi-level parking lot in Chiba Prefecture, which they filmed and saved on their smartphones.</p>
<p> During the police interrogation, Suzuki stated the following about the crime against Ms. B. He said, &#8220;Even a junior high school student can meet a girl.</p>

<p> Although his defense attorney had argued that he <span class="strongInContent">had not assaulted or threatened either victim</span> and <span class="strongInContent">stated, &#8220;I ask for a lenient sentence,&#8221;</span> what was handed down was a prison sentence.</p>

<p> After handing down the sentence, Judge Murohashi stated.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> The defendant has stated that he has had sexual intercourse with several minors he met through the Internet in his car and other places.</span></p>
<p> On the day of the trial, Suzuki entered the courtroom wearing a top and bottom gray sweatshirt and his long hair in a bun.</p>
<p> During his first trial, he covered his face several times during the trial, and in his final statement, he apologized in tears, but was he already prepared to be found guilty? He was not distraught when the sentence was handed down, but simply bowed his head to Judge Murohashi.</p>

<p> When asked by the prosecutor <span class="strongInContent">why he used the Internet so much when he knew that it was a crime to take minors around and have sexual intercourse with them,</span> defendant Suzuki <span class="strongInContent">replied, &#8220;I think I was numb to the sensation of using the Internet.</span> As he met many minors, did he become numb to the sense of guilt, thinking that &#8220;luring minors without their guardians&#8217; consent&#8221; and &#8220;having sexual intercourse with minors&#8221; were no big deal as long as he obtained their consent?</p>

<p> Suzuki <span class="strongInContent">stated, &#8220;I felt no resistance to having sexual intercourse with a minor, so I am thinking of going to a specialized clinic.</span> However, when asked by the prosecutor, <span class="strongInContent">&#8220;What kind of hospital specifically?&#8221;</span> he replied, <span class="strongInContent">&#8220;I haven&#8217;t looked into anything,&#8221;</span> giving the impression that he is still not fully aware of his own sexual preferences.</p>
