Post-Breakup, Tom Cruise Fixates on His Next Big Project—Possibly in Space

Ana Was Overwhelmed by Tom’s Fast-Moving Romance
Tom Cruise (63) has ended his brief eight-month romance with Ana de Armas (37). Since reports of their breakup surfaced in October, he has thrown himself into filming new projects, including Top Gun 3, pursuing his work with characteristic discipline.
Their relationship began with a dinner date in London this February, followed by a series of outings. By August, they were photographed holding hands, confirming their relationship. Reports even circulated that Cruise was searching for a luxury home in an upscale London neighborhood and preparing a prenuptial agreement—fueling speculation that marriage was imminent.
However, last month the sudden news of their breakup emerged.
Our site previously pointed out that both were swamped with multiple major film projects, contributing to the split—describing it as: “A schedule packed with blockbusters that cooled their love.”
Since then, U.S. and U.K. outlets have continued reporting various details about the cause of the breakup.
According to US Weekly, a source stated: “Tom and Ana are over for now.”
“Things moved very fast, and Ana began feeling uneasy about the pace. The breakup was largely her decision.”
The source added that while the romantic relationship had ended:“They want to remain friends.”
The Daily Mail similarly reported that the two realized: “To protect their friendship and professional future in film, they should maintain a strictly professional relationship.”
The outlet summed it up: “Like all good movies, everything has an ending. That ending has now come for Tom and Ana.”
As for Cruise after the split, Radar Online reported—citing friends—that he is coping with the emotional fallout by immersing himself in the next installments of Mission: Impossible and Top Gun.
The source said: “He’s throwing himself into work more than ever. That’s classic Cruise—he exercises his unique, strict self-discipline in both his personal life and his career, and pursues his work with absolute focus.”
He says.
The blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick earned 230 billion yen
“Judy, the new film pairing Tom Cruise with master director Alejandro González Iñárritu—who won back-to-back Best Director Oscars for Birdman (2014) and The Revenant (2015)—began filming last month at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. However, reports say filming has been suspended indefinitely after one of the main cast members was seriously injured on set. As a result, Top Gun 3 may move forward first,” says a Hollywood insider.
Paramount Global, which produced the Top Gun and Mission: Impossible franchises starring Cruise, has been acquired by Skydance Media. Skydance CEO David Ellison has emphasized that Top Gun 3 and Star Trek are top priorities.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022), the sequel to the 1986 original Top Gun, featured Cruise returning as Navy Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who comes back to the elite flight school to train a new generation of pilots and lead them on a special mission while confronting his own past.
“Released in 2022, the film captivated audiences with its high-spec aerial sequences, including Tom himself piloting a fighter jet. The worldwide box office totaled about $1.5 billion (approx. 230 billion yen), and it was also a huge hit in Japan with 13.77 billion yen in earnings,” says a distribution executive.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Screen Rant about Top Gun 3:
“Tom is an incredible actor. We’ve spent time with him. The story is already set. Joseph Kosinski (director) came up with an amazing idea, and Tom said he ‘really loved it.’”
Director Kosinski also hinted in an interview with GQ that the third film will be:
“much larger in scale than the previous one.”
He added:
“The danger Maverick faces in this film will be far greater than before.”
Cruise is expected to return as Maverick, alongside returning cast members such as Miles Teller and Glen Powell.
Meanwhile, the previous installment, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2025), did not conclude as a final chapter, fueling speculation about what the ninth film will bring.
In Judy, mentioned above, Cruise is expected to take on a major role involving large-scale action sequences.
Additionally, he is reuniting with director Doug Liman for a space-themed film that—reportedly with the cooperation of Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA—will actually be filmed using real spacecraft and on the International Space Station.
Tom Cruise may have stepped away from romance, but his passion for filmmaking burns brighter than ever. Expectations are high for the new chapters ahead for Hollywood’s top star.
