<p data-start="210" data-end="438">On October 27, the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival 2025 opened. A red-carpet event was held at Hibiya Step Square and Hibiya Nakadori in Tokyo&#8217;s Chiyoda Ward, where roughly 270 filmmakers from Japan and abroad gathered.</p>
<p data-start="210" data-end="438"><strong>“This year&#8217;s opening film was The Summit Beyond the Peak, released on October 31. Sayuri Yoshinaga (80) stars as Junko Tabei—renamed Junko Tabe in the film—who became the first female mountaineer to reach the summit of Everest in 1975. Yoshinaga plays her from age 55 until her passing at 77.</strong></p>
<p data-start="738" data-end="1126"><strong>At the red carpet, Yoshinaga appeared alongside non (32), who played Tabe’s younger years. Yoshinaga wore an elegant two-tone kimono in purple hues, featuring an obi embroidered with a photo of Tabei herself. Riho Yoshioka (32), who appeared in the Taiwanese film Double Happiness, wore a black dress with lace detailing that revealed her fair legs. Keiko Kitagawa (39), star of Night Flower, appeared in a glossy sleeveless dress with a front slit showcasing her long, elegant legs. Co-star Misato Morita (29) wore a super-mini black dress, likewise showing off her legs.</p>
<p data-start="1128" data-end="1552"><strong>“Ko Shibasaki (44) and Hikari Mitsushima (39), co-stars in the film A Brother You Can Carry With You, walked the carpet together. Elaiza Ikeda (29) attended as a judge for the Ethical Film Award. All three wore show-stopping outfits that highlighted the commanding presence of actresses who are now festival regulars.</strong></p>
