Intimidating police officers while in custody… Suspect Wanted for Injury to Popular Fighter ‘Stupefying Defense’
More than a dozen people were affected…
Osaka’s Tenjin Festival has a history of about 1,000 years and is one of the three major festivals in Japan. A vile incident occurred near the festival site, which is crowded with many young people and families.
On October 2, Takayoshi Uematsu, 20, an unemployed man with no fixed address, was arrested for allegedly injuring a man in his 20s by spraying him with tear gas in a park in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture.
The suspect, who is unemployed and has no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of inflicting bodily injury. The man is active as a fighter and has participated in a martial arts tournament that has gained popularity through online distribution.
He was angry that a stranger had suddenly sold him a fight, and demanded an apology from the suspect Uematsu, who then sprayed him in the face with tear gas to repel a bear. While the man flinched, the suspect fled the scene naked. Later, the Osaka Prefectural Police put out a wanted person’s description for Uematsu and pursued his whereabouts.
The park where the incident took place was a popular viewing spot for the Tenjin Festival fireworks, located near the launch site.
About an hour after the fireworks had finished, the suspect Uematsu committed the crime. The area was lined with stalls and many spectators remained. More than a dozen people at the scene complained of eye pain, perhaps magnified by the ingredients of the tear gas spray. One woman hyperventilated and was taken to the emergency room on a stretcher. Ambulances and fire trucks rushed to the scene with sirens blaring, creating chaos.

The day before the incident, Uematsu said to a male passerby in the park , “Are you strong? Let’s fight!” and sprayed him with tear gas. When questioned by the police, he remained silent, saying, “I won’t say anything,” and refused to give a written statement.
Uematsu was once questioned by the Clean Minami Police, a special police unit, on a street in Osaka’s Minami district. The suspect usually posts his daily activities on SNS, and when the police checked, they found that he was having a meal at a yakiniku restaurant in Shinsaibashi. The police rushed to the restaurant and took him into custody,” said an investigator.
At that time, Uematsu filmed the exchange between himself and the members of the police force surrounding him on his smartphone and uploaded the video to a social networking service (SNS). In the video, he says, “I told you I was going to turn myself in, you guys. Tell me what it’s about and what it’s about. The Miyakojima case? What did I do? Why are you guys arresting Minami now? Are you wanted? I’m not wanted. I said I was going to Miyakojima myself. I said I was going to Miyakojima (police station) by myself. Uematsu continued to take video after that, but was stopped by officers after getting into a police car.
How many people did he harm and inconvenience? The empty head of this man cannot understand how many people he has harmed or inconvenienced.
