With his eldest daughter Monna, the head of the “Tenryu Project. She calls Mr. Tenryu “General.

He said, “People would be surprised if I did an event with Onita and Yatsu. ……

I used to be so stubborn that I would say, ‘I don’t want to mingle with those guys even if I die! But now I’ve lost that stubbornness. I want to get rid of the old Genichiro Tenryu, and I also want to make it easier on myself.

Genichiro Tenryu, a.k.a. “Mr. Pro Wrestling,” is the one who said this. He has invited Atsushi Onita and Yoshiaki Yatsu, who were regarded as “dogs and monkeys” during his working days, to his talk events, and has been talking amicably with them while fans worry about the event.

He has recently been getting more and more relaxed in this way, and I feel as if many things are being “erased.

I have many opportunities to face my past and look back on my life, and I especially feel that I have been a sumo wrestler for 13 years and a professional wrestler for nearly 40 years, and I have my own organization, but I wonder why I have so few friends, and I also wonder about the money I made when I moved from All Japan Pro-Wrestling to SWS, which is owned by Megane Super. (If I had saved up the money from my transfer from All Japan Pro Wrestling to SWS (said to be several hundred million yen), I would be driving a Rolls Royce and living a comfortable life by now, even if I had no friends.

With a body that doesn’t move as well as he would like, and a sense of daily decline, he looks back on his life to date: his entry into the world of sumo at the age of 13, his days of fierce competition as a professional wrestler, and his terrible battle with illness after his retirement. He entered the world of Kakugai at the age of 13, fought fiercely as a professional wrestler, and then fought a terrible battle with illness after retiring from wrestling.

His latest big event will be held on November 4, 2013, at Korakuen Hall, the sacred place of professional wrestling. Under the name of Genichiro Tenryu, 33 professional wrestlers from various organizations, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling, will participate in this event. As the Tenryu Project, the event will be the “last Korakuen Hall event,” and can be seen as the culmination of Tenryu’s career.

On November 15, 2013, exactly 10 years after his retirement, a festival event will be held in the plaza in front of Ryogoku Kokugikan, the venue of his retirement match, featuring not only wrestling but also various other events such as talk shows and photo sessions. Fireworks will be set off to mark the triple anniversary year of the 10th anniversary of his retirement, the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Tenryu Project, and the 75th anniversary of his own birth.

■The full story of how he said goodbye to Makishiro and his close friends who have supported him, how he battled his illness to the point of critical condition at one point, and his enthusiasm for the festival event to be held exactly 10 years after his retirement can be read in the paid version of the magazine [FRIDAY Subscription].

Tenryu Gen’ichiro was born on February 2, 1950, in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, and was introduced to the Nisshonoseki stable at the age of 13. He joined the Nishimaegashira Sumo stable at the age of 13, and his highest rank in the sumo world was nishimaegashira. In 1990, he moved to SWS, and in 1992, he started his own organization, WAR. He later became a freelance wrestler. He is known as “Mr. Pro Wrestling” for his famous fights with Antonio Inoki, Riki Choshu, Nobuhiko Takada, The Great Muta, and others. He retired from active wrestling in 2003 after a match against Okada Kazuchika at Ryogoku Kokugikan.
