Sho Sakurai Proves His Star Power—Why His Life After Arashi Is on Solid Ground
His starring drama “Broadcast Station Siege” has surpassed 1.3 million favorites on TVer,
and plans for the fourth installment in the series are already underway.

In High Spirits Throughout the Wrap Party
One night in late September, a sleek black luxury car pulled up to a popular dining bar in Daikanyama, Shibuya, Tokyo. When the sliding door opened, Arashi member Sho Sakurai (43) stepped out gracefully.
“That night, the dining bar was reserved for the wrap party of the drama ‘Broadcast Station Siege’ (NTV), which had aired its final episode on September 20. In addition to Sakurai, actress Manami Higa (39) and others were also in attendance. Perhaps because the drama was such a hit, Sakurai was in high spirits the entire evening. As he was leaving, he even exchanged a cheerful handshake with a female staff member,” said one of the production staff.
Broadcast Station Siege is the third installment in the “Siege” series, following Big Hospital Siege and New Airport Siege. With over 1.3 million favorites on TVer, it topped the summer season rankings.
“NTV sees the series as a new model of success and is already developing a fourth installment. Sakurai himself is fond of the role, and it’s likely to become one of his signature works,” the same source added.
Although Arashi will officially retire its group name next May, Professor Sachinobu Okada of Yamato University’s Faculty of Sociology believes Sakurai’s second career is secure.
“He will continue to shine as a well-rounded talent—newscaster, entertainer, and actor. In addition to his hosting and acting skills, his considerate attitude and professionalism make him beloved by staff. There are absolutely no rumors of scandal surrounding him. Even after Arashi ends its activities, the offers will keep coming.”
It seems there’s no shortage of smiles ahead for Sho Sakurai.
