A Touch of Magic? Aoi Miyazaki & Yo Oizumi Seen Getting Close for Upcoming Drama

The Storyline Has a Fairly Complex Backbone

In fact, this is a scene from the upcoming drama “Just a Little Esper” (TV Asahi), set to premiere on October 21. The much-anticipated series stars Yo Oizumi (52) and features Aoi Miyazaki (39). Oizumi plays Bunta, a down-and-out salaryman who suddenly gains just a little esper (psychic) power and is tasked with the mission of saving the world. Miyazaki plays Shiki, a mysterious woman who ends up living with Bunta as his wife in this sci-fi romantic drama.

“This is an original screenplay by Akiko Nogi, known for We Married as a Job (TBS) and the TBS Sunday Theater drama The Diamond Sleeping in the Sea. Fellow espers are played by Dean Fujioka (45) and Atsuko Takahata (70), while Takumi Kitamura (27) plays a mysterious university student. The final cast member to be announced was Masaki Okada (36), who plays Kizashi—the boss who commands Bunta to save the world. With such a star-studded lineup, expectations among viewers are extremely high,” says a TV magazine writer.

Going back to the opening scene, it was filmed in late August.

Miyazaki, as Shiki, and Oizumi, as Bunta, were walking side by side at a yacht harbor facing Tokyo Bay. Miyazaki looked cheerful, while Oizumi appeared slightly flustered. As in the scene described earlier, Miyazaki linked arms with Oizumi. Then the two stopped. As Oizumi remained serious-faced, Miyazaki suddenly spread her arms wide and embraced him.

However, this drama remains tightly under wraps, to the point that even the main characters are described with the label mysterious. On the official drama website, lead actor Oizumi commented:

“The core storyline is fairly complex, so I think viewers will enjoy thinking things through as they watch.”

Even Okada, the final cast member announced, said:

“I’ve never played a role where I’m allowed to say so little!”

Just what kind of twists await the two leads remains to be seen—but anticipation from viewers continues to rise.
