In mid-September, the rock world’s living legend, Sting (73), was surrounded by fans in front of Tokyo Station.

Sting was visiting Japan for his first tour in two and a half years, the nationwide five-city “STING 3.0 JAPAN TOUR 2025.” On this day, after finishing the Tokyo performance the day before, he appeared at Tokyo Station to transfer to another venue, where waiting fans quickly gathered around him.

Under his jacket, the chest area of his white T-shirt was noticeably muscular, and his skin had a remarkably healthy glow. Even facing fans directly, he maintained his usual cool, poker-faced demeanor, but he did not refuse any fan requests for autographs at the station rotary or on the Shinkansen platform.

However, his response completely changed when fans presented items from his days with The Police. In an even cooler voice, he said:

“No Police.”

He refused to sign anything related to the band, strictly limiting autographs to his solo work and his current album.

The Police were a British rock band active from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s, with total sales exceeding 75 million records. They ranked 70th on Rolling Stone’s list of the “Greatest Artists of All Time.” According to British media, Sting is currently being sued by his former Police bandmates over copyright payments.

“The plaintiffs are guitarist Andy Summers (82) and drummer Stewart Copeland (73). They claim Sting has not paid them arranging fees from digital revenues of Police songs, including their hit ‘Every Breath You Take.’ The unpaid amount is estimated to be several million dollars.

Sting himself has not commented on the lawsuit, but his lawyer stated that an agreement was reached in 2016 and that the two have been overpaid significantly. Settlement negotiations are reportedly stalled,” said a music magazine reporter.

During this tour, Sting formed a trio for the first time since his Police days, including hits like “Every Breath You Take” and “Message in a Bottle” in the setlist. However, it may be that a live performance with the original Police members will never happen again.
