“How much longer until they arrive?”

Holding a microphone and glancing back over her shoulder, TBS announcer Mako Tamura (29) was seen asking staff members for updates.

In the early morning of September 14, part of a major road in Ginza, Tokyo’s Chuo Ward, was closed to traffic for the “World Athletics Tokyo 2025” Women’s Marathon. Although the race had yet to begin, the streets were already filled with event staff, broadcast crews, and spectators.

“During the live broadcast from the National Stadium, TBS announcer Ai Eto (39) skillfully handled hosting duties between the famously quirky special ambassador Yuji Oda (57) and first-time ambassador Mio Imada (28). But outside the main venue, other TBS announcers were also working hard,” explained a TV magazine writer.

One of them was Tamura. Despite the sweltering conditions—29°C with 69% humidity—she remained cheerful and energetic.

“As the race began, Tamura leaned over the barricade, microphone in hand, watching intently in the direction of the approaching runners. She was chatting with staff, saying things like, ‘How much longer until they get here?’ and ‘Maybe I should stand around here?’ She didn’t seem nervous—more like genuinely excited and having fun,” recalled a spectator who watched from the roadside.

Tamura, known as one of the main hosts of the morning variety show “Love it!”, was working on a Sunday—her usual day off—but still looked full of energy.

In a July 30 “Rankingoo!” poll for Favorite Active Female Announcer (Summer 2025), she ranked third, cementing her position as one of TBS’s top faces. Given her popularity, her appearance at the World Athletics event was no surprise—but many fans on social media also shared messages like, “Don’t push yourself too hard!”

As someone who brightens mornings across Japan, fans hope she continues to bring her infectious positivity—while taking care of her health, too.
