Rola Showcases Natural Style at Billie Eilish Event Amid Farmer Training

Her signature “Rola style” is still going strong

In mid-August, a distinctive “kyahaha” laugh could be heard from a rental space in Harajuku, Shibuya. Right after that, Rola (35) appeared.

On that day, Rola was actually having a conversation with American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish (23).

“Billie is currently in the middle of her world tour ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR,’ and she came to Japan for her concerts at Saitama Super Arena on August 16 and 17, as well as for a pop-up event for her perfume brand. Before the limited-time pop-up store opened at the same location, Rola interviewed her there,” said a fashion magazine writer.

On the official VOGUE JAPAN TikTok and X accounts, a video of Rola’s conversation with Billie has been posted. Speaking fluent English, Rola asked about Billie’s perfume “YOUR TURN” and about her live performances.

“I tried your perfume, and it smelled so good,” she said, giving a thumbs-up and striking a “goo!” pose, making Billie burst into laughter — a perfect icebreaker.

When Rola then said, “A lot of Japanese fans are waiting for you!” Billie replied, “I’m waiting for them. I’m so excited.”

To that, Rola responded,

“I’m one of those fans, too!” while raising her index finger, tilting her head, and smiling — which made Billie laugh out loud.

Though she has been away from television for some time, it seems her trademark “Rola style” is still very much alive.

Juggling both farming and modeling

In the interview video, Rola was wearing a leopard-print blouse, with many pieces of jewelry on her fingers and large earrings. But when she came out with the staff afterward, she was dressed in a black one-piece dress with sandals — a natural style.

“She announced in March this year that she would spend a year learning agriculture in Niigata, her mother’s hometown. Every month she visits Niigata and posts photos on social media showing herself getting muddy in the rice fields. At first, there were comments criticizing her barefoot rice planting as dangerous or not understanding farming, but recently comments like ‘It shows she’s really serious, not just posing’ and ‘Her way of living is so cool’ have been increasing.

There have been several sightings of her in Tokyo as well, walking around in natural dresses without makeup or riding trains like an ordinary person, so it seems she’s been keeping a simple lifestyle. Even so, with her looks, she still tends to stand out (laugh),” said the aforementioned writer.

A few days after the talk with Billie Eilish, she updated her Instagram, showing herself back in her hometown of Niigata. It seems she’s now completely settled into having both faces — farmer and model.
