Set to make her gravure debut in Japan!

“In the past, cosplay was rare in Taiwan and Hong Kong and was often viewed critically. However, about 20 years ago, the situation began to change, and now it is widely accepted. Many people attend anime events, pop-up stores, and collaboration cafés in cosplay, and they are no longer looked at strangely,” says a representative from a Taiwanese talent agency.

Originally a part of Japanese culture, cosplay has now spread worldwide. Especially in Asia, popular cosplayers continue to emerge, crossing borders to expand their activities. FRIDAY has selected five notable cosplayers from Asia to introduce.

1. Chihiro

Chihiro boasts over 2 million total social media followers and is a founding member of the YouTube channel “叩舍COSIR,” which has about 300,000 subscribers. She has served as an official cosplayer for events such as “The Forgotten Sword” and “Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.” Her activities span Australia, France, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. She is also set to make her gravure debut in Japan.

“I love Japan, and I’ve been uploading videos like ‘Yakuyakuya no Hitorigoto Koi Dance Odottemita.’ I’ll also do my best with gravure work!” (Chihiro)

2. Moai

Started cosplaying in 2018, Moai has appeared at events not only in Taiwan but also in Malaysia and Thailand. She has served as an official cosplayer for works such as Princess Connect! Re:Dive, Brown Dust, DEAD OR ALIVE, and League of Legends.

“I know it might sound arrogant, but I think I’m among the top 10 in Taiwan in terms of ‘ability to seduce people’ (laughs). I’m good at captivating with my gaze and the way I move my hips (?). I joke around a lot, but honestly, I truly love dancing!

I am always grateful that I can continue cosplaying as my profession, and I will keep working hard so that I can continue shining in front of everyone!” (Moai)

“I plan to participate in Japan’s Comic Market 106 and Taiwan’s FF45 (Fancy Frontier 45), where I will distribute an original photo book series themed around ‘The Four Seasons.’ I’m looking forward to meeting everyone with this new photo book. Please receive the memories of spring directly from my hands♡” (Hanari)

4. Rinka

“My Japanese isn’t perfect yet, but I’ll do my best to convey my feelings. Everyone in Japan is really kind, like angels. I truly love you all♡ Please call me ‘Rinka-chan’!

My current goal is to become everyone’s little sunshine. If my presence can warm someone’s heart even a little, I’ll be happy. If you ever see me at an event, please feel free to come and talk to me. Share your happy moments, your sad moments—anything. I’ll support you with all my heart!” (Rinka)

5. Angela Chong

Malaysian cosplayer Angela Chong

“I love singing, and I had the opportunity to perform the theme song for the game ‘Half-God Half-Demon.’ One memorable moment was co-starring in the game’s commercial with Jimmy Lin, who is also famous as an actor and racer. Since then, I’ve released songs like ‘Yi Ren’ and ‘Tang Yuan.’ In the future, I hope to challenge myself with gravure work in Japan. Everyone in Japan, please wait for me♡” (Angela Chong)
