What did “FRIDAY” report 10, 20, and 30 years ago? In “Playback Friday,” we revisit the topics that were hot at the time. In this issue, we will look back 20 years ago to the September 2, 2005 issue of “FRIDAY,” which reported that a man with an abnormal sexual appetite who murdered three men and a woman had even written a “novel about the crime! A murderer with a “fetish for suffocation” confessed to 50 other crimes.

On August 5, X (36 at the time), an employee of a temporary staffing agency in Sakai City, was arrested on suspicion of murder and abandonment of a corpse in the case of a woman in her 20s, A, whose body was found on a riverbank in Kawachinagano City, Osaka Prefecture, in February 2005. X later confessed to the murders of two men and was the initiator of the “Suicide Site Serial Murder Case” that shook the world. X was also found to have committed numerous “other crimes” in addition to the three murders. (All ages and titles are current at the time, and descriptions in parentheses are taken from past articles).

Sexually aroused by the sight of a woman suffering because she could not breathe

The murderer, who killed three men and a woman for his own pleasure, was still wearing his “mask” of calmness at the moment of his arrest.

The police came to my house around 6:00 a.m.,” he said, “but I didn’t nod my head and just got into my car. He was not handcuffed, so I had no idea he had been arrested.

X lured Ms. A, whom he had met on an Internet “suicide site,” by asking her to “commit charcoal briquette suicide with him,” and killed her by suffocating her. He was sexually aroused by the sight of her suffering because she could not breathe. I thought that if she was a user of the suicide site, there would be no suspicion even if I disappeared,” he stated. He confessed to the murders of B, a 14-year-old junior high school student in Kobe, and C, a 21-year-old male university student, whom he had met on the site, using the same method. True to his word, the two bodies were found one after the other.

X’s modus operandi was as follows.

He would visit suicide websites at Internet cafes and scout out people who wanted to commit suicide. Then, after luring them to trust him in a rented car equipped with a charcoal briquette, X tied their hands and feet with string and covered their mouths and noses with hands and adhesive tape to make them suffocate to death. The suffering is captured on camera, and the groans of despair are recorded and saved on a computer or CD-ROM. In some cases, they did not kill the victim right away, but slowed down when he fainted, repeating the process for nearly an hour.

In a prefab house that X was using as a “home away from home” near his house, images and sounds of several people, including a man who appeared to be the victim, being suffocated were stored on CD-ROMs and PCs. Not only that, but on the website that X had opened under the name “The King of Suffocation,” there was a “novel” of his own writing titled “My First Suffocation Play, and Murder. The contents of the novel were horrifying and reminiscent of his crimes.

Naomi was moaning and resisting, desperately trying to shake her head from side to side. I was immersed in a sense of satisfaction as I watched her suffer. After about two minutes of shutting off Naomi’s breathing, her moans suddenly ceased, and her entire body relaxed. I continued to cover Naomi’s nose and mouth. After a while, Naomi’s body began to convulse.

After returning home, I watched the video over and over again. The sight of Naomi’s suffering was so beautiful that I jerked off repeatedly.

A “proclivity” that had not stopped since junior high school.

X became sexually aroused by the sight of another person suffering from asphyxiation, a fetish that he says was triggered by an Edogawa Rampo novel he read in junior high school. X, who became obsessed with choking, stated , “Since junior high school, I have been choking passersby and covering their mouths. He stated that he had done about 50 such acts.

In 1987, when he was at Kanazawa Institute of Technology, he strangled a friend and was suspended indefinitely from school, and in 1995, while working at a post office, he strangled a male colleague and was arrested on suspicion of assault and dismissed on disciplinary grounds. In 2001, he was convicted with a suspended sentence for covering the mouths of two women, including a junior high school student, and the following year he was sentenced to 10 months in prison for covering the mouth of a junior high school boy. The following year, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison for covering the mouths of junior high school boys. The suspended sentence was also revoked. He was truly a hardcore “choking fetishist.

When he was in prison, he had sent a letter to his parents, vowing that he would never do it again, but he did not keep his promise.

After his arrest, X told his lawyer, “I don’t know why I get so excited at the sight of myself choking. I will be executed,” he told his lawyer. Was there really no way to prevent the tragedy?

The “white school socks” were the trigger.

In the trial that began in December ’05, X fully admitted that there was “no doubt” about the crime. On the other hand, X had been diagnosed with dissociative disorder in the past and had been hospitalized for about two months due to memory lapses, so the defense disputed his criminal responsibility. The sentence handed down in March 2007 was the death penalty. The defense appealed, but X withdrew the appeal, so the sentence became final and was carried out in July ’09.

According to a psychiatric evaluation conducted over a year during the trial, X’s “proclivity” was greatly related to the “abuse by suffocation” that his father, a former police officer, had subjected him to several times when he was in elementary school.

It was also revealed at the trial that X was obsessed with “white school socks” when he committed the crimes. He said that when he saw white school socks, he could not suppress his sexual urges. A college friend and a colleague at the post office who were victims in the aforementioned incidents wore white socks. In addition, all three of the murdered victims had been made to wear white school socks prior to the crime.

He decided to use a suicide site because, some time after his release from prison in March ’04, he had a growing desire to play with suffocation again. He looked for a partner on an Internet SM site but was unable to find one, and while browsing suicide sites, he came up with the technique of tying the hands and feet of a suicidal man and playing with him.

Although suicide sites had existed since the Internet first became popular in 2000, their existence was not widely known, and the X case made people aware of the danger of such sites. However, it was difficult for the police to crack down on the sites because posting “I want to kill myself” was not a crime.

And even today, bizarre murders targeting people who want to commit suicide continue to occur, such as the “Zama 9 murders” that occurred 12 years later, in which people who met on suicide sites were murdered one after another…
