The AAV7 amphibious vehicle used by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force was procured primarily for operations in the southwestern islands. Between 2014 and 2018, 58 units were acquired from the U.S. Since production had already ended at the time of acquisition, overhauled vehicles were introduced rather than newly manufactured ones.
