Yasushi Akimoto Launches Theater-Style Boys’ Group Auditions with New Theater Planned
A dedicated theater with a capacity of around 300 people will be newly established
Yasushi Akimoto (67) is launching a new artist project as general producer.
Applications for the “Theater-Style Boys’ Group Audition” opened on August 5. Those who pass will begin regular performances at a newly established dedicated theater in a commercial facility in Tokyo, set to open in 2026, with a capacity of around 300 people. The project emphasizes activities that create direct, real connections with fans, with the long-term goal of holding arena- and dome-level performances.
In a promotional video for the project, Akimoto said:
“From doing many auditions, I’ve noticed that everyone lacks confidence. They may be good at singing, dancing, have a unique character, or look good—but in the world of entertainment, those alone don’t guarantee success. Rather, even if someone feels insecure, we’ll give advice and work together to create this boys’ group. So, I want all kinds of people to apply, whether confident or not.”
The audition eligibility is for males aged 12 to 24, and includes: 〈Those who have never been under contract with a talent agency, record company, music publisher, etc.〉〈Those who can promptly move to and reside in Tokyo after passing this audition〉〈Those who can attend and perform regularly at the dedicated theater after passing〉
The application period runs from August 5 to September 10, and auditions will be held in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and other locations.
Expectations are high for the boys’ group produced by Yasushi Akimoto.
