Dragon Ash’s Kenji Furuya Starts New Life with 30s Woman After Divorce and Affair Scandal
Overcoming many hardships, he and his new partner go shopping at a common supermarket.

Every time, the same familiar beauty is by his side
At a supermarket in Tokyo, this has apparently become a familiar sight.
“I love turban shells.”
The husky voice echoing through the grocery section belonged to Kenji Furuya (46), better known as Kj, the vocalist of the mixture rock band Dragon Ash.
“It must be for that day’s menu—Kj says out loud the ingredients he wants to buy. He’s not really announcing it to the people around him (laughs), but since he’s a top-class vocalist, his voice carries clearly. I’ve heard him say things like, ‘Let’s buy bean sprouts’ or ‘First, kimchi!’ You can’t help but imagine what he’ll be eating for dinner that night. What’s really striking is how much fun he seems to be having each time,” said a regular customer at the supermarket.
And another familiar sight, every time, is the small-faced beauty who shops with him.
The son of legendary Showa-era actor Ikko Furuya, Kenji married actress and entrepreneur MEGUMI (43) in 2008. In 2009, their son Nagi (16), now an actor, was born. Everything seemed to be going smoothly in both work and family life until the summer of 2023, after the pandemic, when Shukan Bunshun reported on Kenji’s alleged affair.
“The shocking report said that he had brought Ms. A, a woman in her early 30s working as a hostess at a suburban Tokyo cabaret club, into the home he shared with MEGUMI. Kenji admitted to the affair, and MEGUMI confirmed that she had separated from him after learning of it,” said an entertainment reporter from a sports newspaper.
In November that same year, Kenji revealed that he suffered from panic disorder. He canceled all shows on his live house tour and temporarily suspended his activities. The following month, his 15-year marriage with MEGUMI came to an end.
However, a year and a half after the divorce, Kenji had started walking a new path in life.
“He changed cars, and earlier this year it looks like he even repainted the exterior of his house. I often see him going out and coming back together with Ms. A. I think they might be living together,” said a neighbor.
As summer came, FRIDAY also spotted Kenji several times shopping at the aforementioned supermarket—and each time, a beautiful woman believed to be Ms. A was always by his side.
“Unlike MEGUMI, who has a bold, straightforward personality, Ms. A is more reserved. Kenji seems to find her absolutely lovable because of that,” said an acquaintance of Kenji.
After Golden Week, Kenji once came shopping at his regular supermarket with just his son Nagi. “It was much quieter than usual (laughs),” recalled the same supermarket regular.
As for whether he will remarry Ms. A—he gave no response to the magazine’s inquiries. But judging from the energetic performances of Dragon Ash at live shows and festivals, that day may not be far off.
