Take a look at the photo. Beside a man in a bathrobe, a woman hangs her arms lifelessly and looks down, as if drained of all spirit. A video obtained by the writer from someone connected to the case captures the full sequence of a so-called drug party that has become rampant in the city’s nightlife.

The man in the photo is Tsuyoshi Tanaka (60), the former chairman of the real estate investment firm “Raysum.” Tanaka was arrested on May 12 of this year on suspicion of violating the Stimulants Control Act, for possessing stimulants and cocaine in a luxury hotel room in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, on June 24 of last year.

“In this case, a former race queen referred to as A and a current female university student referred to as B, who were in the same room, were also arrested (though both were later not prosecuted). The police suspected that all three possessed and used illegal drugs together in the hotel room,” said a reporter from a national newspaper’s social affairs desk.

A businessman who built a publicly listed company from scratch, a former race queen, and a university student—with seemingly no connection to one another. What linked these three individuals was a broker who arranged for women to be sent to male clients for drug-fueled sex, known in Japan as kimeseku (“chemsex”). Mr. X, a street scout based in Roppongi, reveals:

“I heard that both A and B were sent to Tanaka through the same scout group. This group mainly recruited women for the sex industry and hostess clubs, but in recent years, they had also been dispatching women specifically for kimeseku.”

Tanaka was reportedly known in underground circles as a big spender.

“The going rate for one night with a kimeseku girl is around 100,000 to 300,000 yen, but about a year ago, there were rumors of a client paying several million yen. What’s more, that client reportedly wasn’t even that interested in sex—he liked to watch women interacting with each other or observe them getting intoxicated from the drugs. We only found out that the client was Tanaka from Raysum after the incident hit the news,” said another street scout, Mr. K.

The July 17 issue of “FRIDAY” (August 1 edition) features further details, including how brokers gather women and a firsthand account from a woman who was actually dispatched as a kimeseku worker.
