<h2>Even seeing 700 million yen, I was only a little surprised</h2>
On July 11, a launch event for the Summer Jumbo Lottery was held at the Nishi-Ginza Chance Center, located at the Sukiyabashi intersection in Tokyo’s Chuo Ward. A crowd of reporters and photographers gathered at the venue and surrounding area, all drawn by one person: actress Mio Imada (28).
“Imada has appeared in the Jumbo Lottery commercials since 2020, playing Mio, the trendy younger daughter in the ‘Jumbo Siblings’ series. It’s safe to say this series brought out her comedic talents, and her cute character has become very popular,” said a television magazine writer.
Imada is currently gaining attention for her role as Nobu Wakamatsu (later Nobu Yanai), a supportive partner of a manga artist, in the NHK morning drama Anpan. So, when this same heroine showed up at the event in twin tails and ripped jeans—dressed as her trendy gal character—camera flashes erupted, and cheers filled the air.
On stage, she joined fellow cast member Ryo (played by 31-year-old Ryo Narita, the airhead younger brother) for a talk session. Faced with a replica of 700 million yen in cash, Imada confessed honestly:
“It’s still amazing but after doing these events so many times. I kind of scare myself—I’m not that surprised anymore (laughs).”
When asked what she would do if she won 700 million yen, Narita gave a quirky answer:
“I’d spend 350 million yen developing an egg-peeling machine.”
In contrast, Imada offered a surprisingly serious reply:
“I’d research the aurora. Lately, a lot of people around me have gone to see the northern lights, and I thought with 700 million yen, I could see so many different ones.”
Her earnest answer, unexpected from her gal persona, delighted the audience. After the event ended and she stepped off stage, Imada politely bowed to the staff.
This summer, audiences can enjoy both “Nobu” from Anpan and the gal “Mio”—two very different sides of Mio Imada’s charm.
