During dinnertime, Furuya (left) was seen shopping affectionately with his partner at their regular supermarket. She was holding a packet of kimchi hot pot base.

As always, the familiar beautiful woman was by his side

“I really like turban shell.”

The husky voice echoing through the supermarket’s grocery section belongs to Kenji Furuya (46), also known as Kj, the vocalist of the mixture rock band Dragon Ash.

“It must be for that day’s dinner—Kj says aloud the ingredients he wants to buy. He’s probably not trying to announce it to everyone (laughs), but since he’s a top-class vocalist, his voice really carries. I’ve heard him say things like, ‘Let’s get bean sprouts,’ or ‘Kimchi first!’” (Regular customer at the supermarket)

This has become a familiar sight at the store. Another familiar sight is the small-faced beauty who is always beside him, shopping together with Furuya.

The eldest son of legendary Showa-era actor Ikko Furuya, Kj married actress and entrepreneur MEGUMI (43) in 2008. The following year, their son Nagi (16), now an actor, was born. Everything seemed to be going smoothly in both work and private life for the Furuya family—until the summer of 2023, after the COVID-19 pandemic had settled. That’s when Shukan Bunshun reported on Furuya’s alleged affair.

In November of that same year, Furuya publicly disclosed that he was suffering from panic disorder. He canceled all dates of his live house tour and temporarily stepped away from his career. The following month, his 15-year marriage to MEGUMI came to an end.

However, a year and a half after the divorce, Furuya had already started a new chapter in life. As summer began, FRIDAY spotted Furuya shopping at the same supermarket multiple times—and each time, a beautiful woman was by his side.

More details on Furuya’s new life can be found in the July 17 issue of FRIDAY (August 1 edition) and the paid version, FRIDAY GOLD.
