Shocking Crime at Adult Video Set — Man Arrested for Abandoning Body, Two Mysteries Still Unsolved
Kitagawa, the suspect, being sent to prosecutors. Although the mask obscured his full facial expression, he did not flinch and stared straight at the press without hesitation. On July 2, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Seiichi Kita (30), whose address and occupation are unknown, on suspicion of abandoning a body in connection with the discovery of a corpse in a Shinjuku apartment. The deceased was identified as Soichiro Naruse (35), also with no fixed address or occupation. The two were reportedly acquaintances through work.
“The incident came to light on July 1, when the apartment management company made a 110 emergency call reporting a foul odor. Naruse was found lying in his underwear in a bathtub inside the unit. There were multiple injuries to his head. Based on interviews with nearby residents and other evidence, police believe the murder occurred around June 27.
Surveillance footage from the building on the 27th showed Kita entering and leaving the apartment where the incident took place. As mentioned, the two were believed to be acquainted through work. During questioning, Kita has reportedly denied the allegations, saying, ‘I didn’t do it,’” said a reporter from a national newspaper’s social affairs desk.
On July 3, when he was handed over to prosecutors, Kita stared directly at the press. While his facial expression was partially obscured by a mask, he showed no signs of hesitation as he got into the police transport vehicle.
Two Mysteries Left Behind by the Incident
This case contains several puzzling elements. The first mystery lies in the location where Naruse’s body was found. The apartment room in question was reportedly used for shooting adult videos, editing footage, and as a waiting area for performers. Though the body had been covered with a blue tarp, the space was clearly ill-suited for concealing a corpse. Why would suspect Seiichi Kita choose such an exposed location to dispose of the body? Crime journalist Taihei Ogawa offers insight into Kita’s possible mindset.
“The most likely explanation is that the crime was impulsive. Kita must have known it was a risky place to leave a body, so it’s possible he intended to move it later,” said Ogawa.
“Also, while it was a location used for adult video production, it’s unlikely it was in use every day. Kita may have known the filming schedule and believed the room wouldn’t be used in the near term. If that’s the case, then this starts to suggest some degree of premeditation.”
But there’s a second mystery. Security footage from June 27—the presumed day of the incident—captured another man entering and exiting the crime scene, raising questions about his possible involvement.
“It’s entirely possible that this second man was involved. However, in cases with accomplices, police usually arrest both suspects at once. The fact that only Kita has been arrested suggests the police already know the identity of the other individual but concluded that his arrest would take more time,” the same journalist explained.
“Most likely, police are confident they can apprehend the accomplice before Kita’s detention period ends in late July. If not, they wouldn’t risk tipping off the second suspect by arresting only Kita. That would simply be alerting the accomplice that he’s under investigation. So, the truth behind this case may come to light sooner than expected.”
A bizarre case with two lingering mysteries. Police questioning continues in the pursuit of full clarity.
