A self-proclaimed first-class medium “sexually assaulted a woman in her twenties in the name of exorcism” with a clever trick.
The man’s living spirit is attached to him. The man’s spirit is in a very dangerous state and needs to be exorcised.
The man sent direct messages to the woman to this effect. He is alleged to have sexually assaulted the woman in the name of exorcism.
By June 24, Shinjuku Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested a suspect, Shinetsu Sato, 28, a resident of Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, with an unknown occupation, on suspicion of sexual misconduct. The suspect claimed to be a “first-class medium specializing in celebrities” and allegedly sexually assaulted Ms. A, a woman in her 20s.
The suspect contacted Ms. A through a social networking service. He sent a message to Ms. A, who was live-streaming, saying, ‘I felt something not good when I saw your post, so I DMed you. Perhaps afraid of alarming her, he deceptively used the woman’s name and sent a message saying, “There is a living spirit attached to you.
The suspect, who claimed to be a “first-class medium,” then appeared on the scene. He told her, ‘You have so many spirits that I can’t see your face,’ ‘They are staring at you from the closet,’ etc., and proposed to go to her house to exorcise the spirits.
I don’t like to do it.”
On March 7 of this year, the suspect, exploiting the anxiety of the woman, went from her home in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, to an apartment in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, where Ms. A lived. Ms. A paid the 27,000 yen transportation fee.
The suspect chanted sutras and said to Ms. A as she sat on her bed, “If you don’t perform a physical exorcism, you can’t be exorcised. The suspect chanted sutras and sat her down on a bed, saying to her, ‘You can’t get rid of the spirits without physical exorcism. When Ms. A refused, he said, ‘I came all the way here for you, but you don’t want me to die. I don’t like to do it either. On the following day, March 8, Sato allegedly sexually assaulted Ms. A on multiple occasions.
The suspect stayed in Ms. A’s room until March 9, after the assault. On the 10th, after Sato was gone, Ms. A reported the assault to a nearby police box and the incident was discovered. The suspect Sato denied committing the crime, stating as follows I placed salt in her room and chanted sutras, but I did not commit any sexual acts.
Former Kanagawa Prefectural Police detective and crime journalist Taihei Ogawa commented on the case.
If the allegations are true, it is an extremely sophisticated and malicious case. There have been cases in the past where women who were troubled by spirits went to a medium for advice and were sexually victimized. This time, however, the assailant posed as a woman and approached the victim. Moreover, he exploited the victim’s psychology and made her feel insecure.
The woman must have felt a sense of shame for having confided her problems to the assailant and for having invited him into her room. The victim in this case gathered up her courage and talked to the police, but I believe that many women feel weak and cry themselves to sleep because they have even paid transportation expenses to the assailant. I suspect that the suspect has some extra crimes.”
The suspect, Sato, is said to have possessed special abilities and began working as a medium around last summer.
