In 2015, she debuted as a first-generation member of Keyakizaka46. After graduating from the group in 2018, she pursued a career as an actress but retired from the entertainment industry in October 2022 to focus on raising her child. Following her return in March 2025, she has been active across a wide range of fields as an actress, TV personality, and artist.

“I’ll absolutely never retire again!”

With her large eyes fixed on the reporter, Yui Imaizumi (26) made that vow.

Imaizumi debuted in 2015 as a first-generation member of the idol group Keyakizaka46. From the start, she gained popularity as one of the group’s central members. After graduating in 2018, she pursued acting, but in 2022, she suddenly announced her retirement from the entertainment industry.

This spring, however, she made her long-awaited return after two and a half years. When asked what led her to decide on a comeback, she gave a shy laugh and began speaking slowly.

“Honestly, when I made the decision to come back, my first thought was, ‘Well, now I really can’t retire again, can I?’ (laughs). If I quit again, I’d be branded with the serial retiree label, and no one would cheer me on anymore. And to be honest, even after leaving the industry, I didn’t feel any mentally lighter.”

Her first job after returning was “Yui Imaizumi’s Big Comeback Special: You Guys Waited Long Enough! by Otenki Nori” (SBS Radio). Her co-host was Nori (46), a member of the comedy trio Otenki and a well-known radio personality. Their cheerful banter was well received, and starting May 3, the program became a regular show.

Imaizumi says it’s thanks to Nori that she’s been able to express her charm on-air.

“Before I left the industry, I’d appeared with Nori-san on Rekomen! on Bunka Hoso. I was trembling with nerves during our first regular recording, but having Nori-san by my side gradually put me at ease, and it started to feel fun again. There was a moment, in the middle of a casual exchange, when I thought I’m really back now, and I felt glad I returned.”

In the June 5 issue of FRIDAY (June 30 edition) and its premium edition FRIDAY GOLD, Imaizumi spoke openly not only about her feelings since coming back, but also about what was on her mind during her time away from the spotlight. She also revealed a new dream she’s embraced since becoming a mother, as well as the person she admires.
