“Oh no! I’m going to faint!”

In early May, a crowd of housewives and young women gathered around a park in Tokyo, peeking inside while standing on tiptoe. Their eyes were fixed on a handsome, blond-haired man — actor Jun Shison (30).

The women, smartphones in hand, ran around the park’s perimeter, squealing things like, “So handsome!” “His face is so small!” and “He’s so tall!”

That day, filming was underway for the currently airing drama Koi wa Yami (Love is Darkness) on NTV.

“This drama is a romantic mystery about free writer Kouki Shitara, played by Shison, who pursues a serial killer, and TV program director Makoto Tsutsui, played by Yukino Kishii (33), who fall dangerously in love. It’s made by the same staff behind the 2019 hit Your Turn to Kill, which was also adapted into a film. The show drew attention even before its premiere and is earning a reputation as an adult drama with intense kiss and love scenes between the two leads,” explains a TV magazine writer.

Adding to the buzz is Shison’s striking appearance. At 178 cm, he won the Best Styling Award 2019 in the men’s category. Often cast as wholesome characters to match his fresh looks, he’s won a large female following. In this drama, he sports blond hair as a mysterious figure, and social media is flooded with comments like, “Too hot to function,” and “I can’t even theorize.”

But it wasn’t just Shison filming that day. Co-star Kishii was right beside him, and the pair repeatedly shot scenes conversing in the park. Between takes, they laughed together like a real couple, delighting onlookers who murmured, “Those two get along so well,” and “They have such great chemistry.”

At one point, a group of schoolgirls called out, “Shison-kun!” and when he noticed, he smiled and waved back, sending the crowd into a frenzy of squeals like, “Aahh!” and “Oh no, I’m gonna faint!”

Though Shison and Kishii seemed to share a genuinely close vibe on set, where their characters’ dangerous romance is headed remains to be seen. The unfolding drama promises to keep viewers hooked.
