Suzu Hirose has fully established herself as a serious actress, now radiating an aura of alluring elegance.

“It was really tough.”

On May 5th, the completion premiere screening of the movie Treasure Island was held at Marunouchi TOEI (Chuo Ward), with lead actors Satoshi Tsumabuki (44), Masataka Kubota (36), director Keishi Otomo (59), and Suzu Hirose (26) appearing on stage.

Wearing a glamorous, pearl-colored dress with a deeply open back, Hirose exuded a gorgeous and alluring atmosphere that captured the audience’s attention. She appeared slightly nervous and said,

“Thank you very much for coming today.”

When asked about her impressions after having seen the completed film before the screening, Hirose spoke thoughtfully:

“In a very good way, it was really exhausting.”

“There were many moments when I looked back and thought how intense those days of filming were.”

During the event, a topic about whether Tsumabuki and Kubota had eaten together with Hirose during breaks in filming or not caused laughter among the audience.

Scheduled for release in September, the film is a live-action adaptation of Treasure Island, originally written by Junjo Shindo, winner of the 160th Naoki Prize. Set in the chaotic postwar era of Okinawa under American occupation, it depicts the lives of three young people called the “Senka Agiyaa” who stole supplies from the U.S. military to share with the local residents: Gusuku (played by Tsumabuki), Rei (Kubota), and Yamako (Hirose). On the official movie website, Hirose commented:

“When I first read the script, I thought, ‘This is going to be tough.’ (omitted) Before filming started, the director told me, ‘I want you to be the sun in this story,’ and those words reached me directly. I realized it was okay for Yamako to be everyone’s hope, and I wanted to give it my all.”

A film magazine writer noted:

“Hirose starred in the January drama Who Watched the Peacock’s Dance? (TBS), and received high praise on social media for her wide acting range and vitality. Recently, she has appeared in dramas and movies with heavy themes, and in this work, she fully demonstrates her skills as a serious actress.”

When asked about her feelings on acting in the movie, Hirose said:

“It was very tough, and while living through those intense days, I encountered many different emotions. It might sound strange to say ‘fun,’ but I experienced an energetic feeling on set that I hadn’t encountered often in acting.”

“I think it was a very happy experience to be allowed to act while struggling, suffering, but also having fun.”

This film will surely allow audiences to enjoy Hirose’s rich and profound acting performance.

The audience was dazzled by her pearlescent dress.
