Mads Mikkelsen arrived in Japan in a casual neighborhood stroll style.

The acclaimed actor is known as the “Treasure of Scandinavia.”

In mid-April, Mads Mikkelsen (59), the world-renowned actor, appeared in the arrival lobby of Haneda Airport and waved at the fans waiting for him.

From April 18th to 20th, Makuhari Messe (in Mihama Ward, Chiba City) hosted the “Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025” event, a large fan gathering related to the “Star Wars” series, produced by Lucasfilm. This event marked the first time it was held in Japan in 17 years. Mads came to Japan as a guest for this event.

“Mads, a Danish actor, became popular in domestic TV series and films, but it was his role as the villain Le Chiffre in the 2006 film 007/Casino Royale that earned him global recognition. He then went on to portray Hannibal Lecter in the American TV series Hannibal, Kaecilius in Doctor Strange (2016), and Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). With his ability to portray unique characters in intense roles, he solidified his status as a character actor. He is now referred to as ‘Scandinavia’s treasure’ (according to a film magazine writer).”

In February of this year, Mads received high praise for his portrayal of a real-life figure in the 18th-century Danish film The Man Who Tended Love, where he portrayed a man facing oppression and the forces of nature while pioneering the wilderness.

Mads, known for his large physique and serious demeanor in films, is a down-to-earth and friendly person in private life. It is well known that he often wears a cap and sweatpants in public.

For his arrival in Japan, he was dressed casually in a cap and khaki-colored sweats, carrying a backpack. He looked like someone casually taking a walk in the neighborhood park, and he waved and smiled at the fans waiting at the airport.

This contrast between his on-screen image and off-screen persona is undoubtedly one of the major charms of Mads.
