New Fuji TV Announcer Asakura Mio Rising Star and 2023 Miss World Japan Runner Up
I love taking on challenges
On April 1st, a new employee ceremony was held at Fuji TV, marking the first step into the professional world for 35 new hires.
At the end of last year, sexual violence by Masahiro Nakai (52) against a former female employee of Fuji TV was exposed. This was followed by a series of scandals involving power harassment within the company and the tribute issue with female announcers. On March 31, the day before the new employee ceremony, an investigation report by the third-party committee set up by Fuji TV was released, confirming the existence of past sexual harassment incidents, which could be seen as a tribute.
“The ceremony the following day gathered significant public attention. This year, there were no extravagant performances, and it was conducted quietly, but all the new employees showed bright, lively expressions. I heard that there were no withdrawals among the candidates” (Fuji TV insider).
This year’s group of new announcers consisted of four people, three of whom were women. All of them were regulars in beauty pageants, considered elites among potential female announcers.
“Among them, the one to watch is Asakura Mion (22). She was a finalist in the 2023 ‘Miss World Japan’ and won the runner-up prize. She also participated in the 2021 ‘Miss Earth’ Tokyo contest, one of the world’s four major beauty pageants, and was crowned ‘Miss Water’ in third place. She graduated from Waseda University and is fluent in languages. Her hobby is marathon running” (announcer watcher).
Friday Digital captured Asakura’s appearance at the “Miss World Japan Finalists Announcement” held on August 3, 2023. Asakura stood out in a daring deep khaki mini dress, showcasing her healthily tanned appearance. During her self-introduction, she said:
“I love taking on challenges. By challenging myself and jumping into new environments, the lessons and encounters with many people enrich my life many times over.”
To bring Fuji TV back into the spotlight, new talent like her is essential. We look forward to the future success of the new announcers.
