This is where I worked as an extra in a war movie when I was a member of the Himawari Theater Company. The barbershop where I shaved my hair and the corridor where I first saw Midori Mayuki were still there. While I was reminiscing, a group of people with an extraordinary aura came from far away. At the center of the group was Nishida-san.

I was looking at Nishida-san as a mere Hidehiko Ishizuka, not as a reporter. Then Nishida-san said, “What is it today?” . I explained about the program and he said, “We are going to start filming now, so please watch.

As I and the Merengue staff nervously entered the set, Nishida-san was in the corner making two cups of coffee and asked, “Do you want a cup of coffee?” and offered me one. Panicking lightly, I said, “Thank you,” and chugged the hot coffee in a scalding gulp. What’s more…

Nishida-san changed the atmosphere of the place in an instant.

When I opened the sliding door to the bedroom and entered the futon on which Mr. Asada was sleeping, I felt an air of “What’s the matter with you?” from the film crew. Then Mr. Nishida came out of the sliding door saying, “Well, I’m going to do it, so watch me,” and the crotch of the pajamas he was wearing was bulging out, as if he had stuffed something in it.

As it was, I got into the futon with a motivated look on my face. The tense set was filled with laughter. In an instant, Nishida-san changed the atmosphere of the place. Since then, when I work on dramas, I always imagine how Nishida-san would play this scene.

Nishida-san was the director of “Tantei! Night Scoop” (Asahi Broadcasting Corporation), for which Nishida-san was the director, and I met him by chance on a platform at Shin-Yokohama Station on my way to Osaka, where I was to record the scene.
