A single camera captured the entrance of an aged building, with many staff members surrounding it. After a while, a young woman emerged with a furrowed brow. It was Mei Nagano (25).

In late March, under the strong sunlight of a Tokyo morning in Akihabara (Chiyoda Ward), a drama shoot was taking place in an office area slightly off the electric town.

“Nagano is starring in the TBS Sunday drama ‘Caster,’ which begins on April 13, and it seems that this was part of the shoot. The lead, Hiroshi Abe (60), plays Soichi Shindo, the main anchor of a news program, while Nagano plays Hana Sakikubo, the executive director who struggles but fights back while being tossed around by Shindo. At the completed preview screening held in Tokyo on April 6, Nagano talked about the tough filming environment, saying, ‘I ran so much that I thought it was worth it even though I got sore muscles every day’” (TV magazine writer).

Although there wasn’t a running scene on this day, the temperature rose to one of the highest levels of the spring, and multiple scenes were filmed where Nagano walked out of the building and down the street. Nagano’s cheeks were slightly flushed, possibly from the heat. Walking closely beside her was Shunsuke Michieda (22) from Naniwa Danshi. Perhaps bothered by the strong sunlight, he raised his hand to shield his eyes from the sun. In the drama, he plays Yusuke Motohashi, a rookie AD aspiring to become a journalist, who admires Shindo. At the screening, he shared that he was so shaken by the powerful presence of Hiroshi Abe that he almost cried.

This spring, several media outlets conducted surveys on the most anticipated TV dramas among viewers, and “Caster” consistently took first place. The performances of the young duo, Nagano and Michieda, are definitely ones to watch.

They filmed the scene of walking together on the sidewalk multiple times.
