Singer Kosuke Naka (44) was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police on March 28 for allegedly committing an indecent act with a man in his 20s at a public bathhouse in Shinagawa, Tokyo. According to reports, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on the 28th, when Naka is suspected of performing indecent acts on the man, who was lying on a chair. The victim noticed the behavior and subdued Naka. Naka was sent to prosecutors on the 29th, and according to the news site ‘FNN Prime Online’ on the same day, he denied the charges, stating, “I have no recollection of this at all.”

In response to the arrest, Naka’s agency updated their official website, stating, “There have been reports from some media outlets about Kosuke Naka’s arrest.” They apologized to the victim, fans, and concerned parties. The agency further explained, “We are currently unable to contact him, and we are in the process of verifying the facts. We will notify you promptly once the facts are confirmed, and we ask for your understanding.”

On March 31, the ‘Kosuke Naka Digital Fanclub’ service was terminated, with the reason given as a review of the fan club’s operations. As of April 4, Naka’s official website is no longer accessible.

Naka, originally from Amami Oshima, Kagoshima, began self-teaching island songs in 1997. After graduating from the University of the Ryukyu, he made his major debut in 2006. Known for his delicate singing voice, he has a high following not only in Japan but also in Taiwan and other overseas regions. His hit songs include ‘Sansara,’ the theme song for the Fuji TV program ‘The Nonfiction,’ and ‘Hana,’ the commercial song for the shochu ‘Satsuma Shirobi.’

“Although Naka had not been involved in prominent activities recently, his song ‘Sansara’ is so famous that his arrest caused a major stir online. Reflecting his popularity in the Chinese-speaking world, the news briefly reached the top 10 on China’s social media platform Weibo,” said a music industry insider.

Inappropriate videos and photos were often posted

Kosuke Naka, whose singing voice was once described as the most gentle voice on earth, shocked many fans with his arrest on charges of non-consensual sex. However, the situation did not end there. An X (formerly Twitter) private account believed to belong to Naka spread across the internet. The content posted there caused an even greater shock, as it starkly contrasted with the gentle voice that had won him fans.

“This account had long been rumored to be Naka’s private account, but just about 20 minutes before his arrest, an image from what appeared to be the public bathhouse where the incident took place was posted.

The account frequently shared selfies of his physique, which had been honed through hard training at home and the gym, as well as posts related to muscle training. There were also many political posts expressing support for certain politicians. Perhaps because income from his music career was insufficient, there were also posts that hinted at a side job, like working for Uber Eats.

The problem, however, was the frequent posts about his sexual preferences, as well as inappropriate videos and photos. For fans who had been captivated by his singing voice, the posts were shocking and difficult to look at.” (Entertainment reporter)

On X, there were many voices expressing confusion and shock at the stark contrast between the private account and the image of Naka that fans had known, with comments like “This is really dark,” and “This was shocking. Fans should never see this.” The question arose: Is this really Naka’s account? When asked about it, his agency responded as follows:

“His lawyer has met with him, but we have not yet confirmed this with him, so we don’t know if it’s his account. As for the case, there is nothing more we can officially discuss at this point.”

The arrest and the spread of the “private account” have caused significant waves. Fans now wait for the day when Naka himself will speak the truth.

The suspect Naka’s eyes were vacant as he came out of the police station, and when he saw the press, he kept his eyes down and got into the convoy at a brisk pace.
