Ryoko Hirosue Arrested for Assaulting Nurse: Our Magazine Exposes Her Troublesome Side
After an accident in which she ran into a large trailer
Ryoko Hirosue (44) was arrested for assaulting a nurse at a hospital in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Shimada City. Five hours before the incident, she had been involved in an accident on the Shin-Tomei Expressway, crashing into a large trailer, which led to her being urgently transported to the hospital.
Her personal office, ‘R.H,’ which she serves as the president, released a statement on their website on April 8:
“On April 8, in Shizuoka Prefecture, the driver of the vehicle, who was Ryoko Hirosue herself, caused a traffic accident. As a result of falling into a temporary panic state at the hospital where she was transported, she accidentally injured a medical professional. We sincerely apologize for the trouble and concern caused to the affected individual and everyone involved.”
The statement also mentioned that she would be suspending her entertainment activities.
“Early on the 8th, the first report of Hirosue’s arrest was brought in. She was arrested on the spot for kicking and scratching a nurse. However, as she did not have identification to confirm her identity, it was initially reported as ‘a self-identified’ case. Eventually, based on the car’s number plate, it was confirmed that it was indeed Hirosue, and the ‘self-identified’ label was removed from the report,” said a TV station official.
In June 2023, Hirosue was involved in a double adultery scandal with popular chef Shusaku Toba (46), and in July of the same year, she announced her divorce from candle artist Jun Toba (51), becoming a single mother of three children.
Amid her scandal and subsequent hiatus from entertainment, she left the agency she had been with for 26 years in February 2024, became independent, and set up her personal office to resume her activities. On March 28, she made her return to a major television network after two years, appearing on the Fuji TV variety show “The Common 10!”
Hirosue made her entertainment debut in 1995 as a pure idol at the age of 14. After graduating from junior high school, she moved to Tokyo to begin her full-scale entertainment career. Her commercial for DoCoMo’s pagers became a sensation, making her a star. Despite her pure image, she repeatedly caused a stir in the media with various romance reports, as recounted by a women’s magazine reporter.
The magazine had witnessed Hirosue’s dating scenes numerous times, with the first being in September 1998 when she was at the height of her idol career. At that time, Hirosue, aged 18, was dating 21-year-old actor Mitsuu (47), and it was a shocking moment for her fans. The relationship was very public, with Hirosue initiating the contact and even holding hands.
Not long after, the magazine witnessed Hirosue on a date with a new partner, 22-year-old actor Yusuke Iseya (48). The three of them, including Hirosue’s mother, were seen strolling together in Yokohama’s Isezaki-cho. Later, Hirosue was seen riding behind Iseya on his motorcycle in an intimate position. Those close to Hirosue reflected on this period, saying that even though her love life was widely discussed, her popularity did not wane.
Despite the rumors of many relationships, her career continued successfully, with notable performances in films like Secret and The Railroad Man. However, in July 2001, the magazine witnessed a strange incident during a drama shoot, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her career.

Trouble in the midst of a full-fledged entertainment career
On that day, after returning home early in the morning from a club, Hirosue took a taxi and traveled for two and a half hours, covering a distance of 150 km to Shirahama, Chiba. However, she didn’t have her wallet, so she borrowed money from an elderly couple at a diner. She then excitedly interacted with fans, singing loudly and sitting on the ground. Eventually, she got into a male fan’s car and was driven back to Tokyo. This unexpected behavior, uncharacteristic of an idol, shocked the public.
About a year after these repeated incidents, the magazine saw Hirosue again in April 2002, during a date with model Takahiro Okazawa. There, Hirosue and Okazawa were seen happily leaning against each other, sharing broad smiles. For her, having entered the entertainment industry—a long-held dream—and quickly becoming famous at a young age, it seemed that love provided a sense of emotional stability.
However, Hirosue divorced Okazawa, the father of her first son, in 2008. Two years later, in 2010, she remarried to Jun Candle, whom she had dated for seven months at the time (36 years old).
When the magazine spotted her again in February 2018, she was at a modest Shanghai restaurant, chatting with what seemed to be her ‘mom friends,’ focusing on topics related to her children. Perhaps talking with these close friends helped her relieve the stress of raising children.
Also, after getting married, as Candle Jun mentioned in a press conference, Hirosue was seen devotedly taking care of her children. In June 2015, she was seen energetically riding a mama bike in a residential area of Tokyo, despite being pregnant with her third child. She was taking her 4-year-old second son to and from school, demonstrating her dedication.
However, it seems her ‘romantic nature’ could not be contained even within a happy marriage. She had an affair with Toba, which led to her divorce from Candle Jun, and it caused disruptions in her entertainment career.
“After the affair reports, she managed to make a comeback, appearing on major TV stations, and her career seemed to be fully back on track. The timing of the recent incident is a real blow. She has long been famous for causing trouble, so her die-hard fans didn’t leave after the affair and romance reports. In fact, the concert held last year, after 25 years, sold out immediately. However, this assault incident is a different kind of trouble. Even her fans might be completely put off by it”(sports newspaper reporter).
