Foreign celebrities everywhere!

Overseas celebrities gathered at the Dodgers vs. Cubs game during the “MLB Opening Series” held at Tokyo Dome (Bunkyo Ward) on March 18 and 19. Among them were world-famous artists who had recently performed in Japan.

One such figure was Jack White (49), considered one of the most important figures in the rock scene since the 2000s and hailed as the world’s greatest rock guitarist.

“He originally started out as a drummer, but in 1997, he formed The White Stripes with his then-wife Meg White (50). He gained fame as a guitarist. In the 2000s, he began collaborating with artists like Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and Beyoncé. His first solo album, Blunderbuss, released in 2012, topped the U.S. charts. His 2018 solo original album Boarding House Reach also reached No. 1 in the U.S. He has won 12 Grammy Awards so far,” says a music magazine writer.

After completing five solo concerts in Japan—his first time performing solo in the country—he visited Tokyo Dome to cheer on his beloved Chicago Cubs. Jack updated his Instagram with the following:

“I went to watch the MLB Cubs vs. Dodgers game wearing a Cubs jersey from 1975—the year I was born—with my favorite number on it, gifted to me by Eddie Vedder (60).”

Eddie Vedder was also at Tokyo Dome. Wearing a Cubs cap, he was surrounded by fans who recognized him.

“Eddie is the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Pearl Jam. He was ranked 7th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Lead Singers of All Time. Their debut album Ten, released in 1991, ranked No. 2 in the U.S. that year and has sold over 10 million copies. Pearl Jam hasn’t performed in Japan since 2003. Eddie is known as a diehard Cubs fan—he even released a single titled ‘(Someday We’ll Go) All the Way’ dedicated to the team,” the same writer explains.

While Jack watched the game in a Cubs jersey, Eddie sat in the front row wearing a black helmet. Jack sat next to Bill (Murray), and next to Eddie sat Cubs owner Tom Ricketts. Their presence was widely shared on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms. Although most of the crowd at the Dome were Dodgers fans, the American celebrities who came to Japan were overwhelmingly Cubs supporters.

Unfortunately, the Cubs lost both games. It must have been a frustrating result, but hopefully, they’ll get their revenge back home.
