On this early March day, a location shoot for the currently airing drama Who Saw the Peacock’s Dance? (TBS) was taking place on a bridge in Tokyo.

Based on a manga of the same name, the drama is a human crime suspense story in which the protagonist, Komugi Yamashita, investigates the mystery behind her detective father’s murder with the help of lawyer Yoshiteru Matsukaze. Hirose plays the lead role of Komugi.

The scene being filmed appeared to be a conversation between Hirose and Kenichi Matsuyama (40), who plays Matsukaze, as they walked along the bridge—a staple setting in the drama.

“Hirose plays a difficult role as Komugi, who not only investigates her father’s murder but also unravels her own roots. She maintains a heavy expression throughout the drama. In contrast, Matsuyama’s Matsukaze has a detached and composed demeanor, offering Komugi various hints along the way. Their scenes together on the bridge provide a brief moment of relief for the audience,” explains a television magazine writer.

Up until now, the drama has rarely featured such bright and refreshing moments.

“It seemed like an off-camera moment during filming. Hirose was always cheerful toward the staff, joking around and making people laugh. There was a rest area along the river where she and Matsuyama chatted happily, and the entire crew was laughing together. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed,” said a male observer who watched the shoot.

Viewers have praised Hirose’s performance, commenting, “She fits the role perfectly—her range is incredible,” and “Her energy and acting skills are truly impressive.” As the drama approaches its climax, fan theories and speculations are fueling even greater excitement.
