Norika Fujiwara greets her patrons in front of the theater on the opening day of “March Grand Kabuki.

Bowing politely.

On March 4, “March Grand Kabuki” opened at the Kabuki-za Theater in Ginza (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo). Before the performance began, a woman standing alone in kimono a short distance away from the theater entrance was …… Kika Fujiwara (53).

She is dressed in a calmly-colored kimono and carries a small bag in her hand as well as a large paper bag. Soon one or two people who look like spectators come up to her. Each time, Kika bowed politely and took out a small envelope from her paper bag and handed it to them.

Last November, her husband, kabuki actor Kataoka Ainosuke (53), suffered a serious injury during rehearsals, fracturing his maxilla and nasal bone. At a press conference held at Sengakuji Temple in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on February 19, when asked about Kataoka, Ainosuke said, ‘I was grateful to have Kataoka by my side, and it was reassuring.

In an appearance on “The World’s Top Gourmet” (NTV) broadcast in January of this year, Norika mentioned for the first time that her entertainment agency had declared bankruptcy at the time and that her husband had been injured.

She said, “When something like this happens, I think, ‘It won’t happen again until I die. I think, ‘Let’s work hard, just the two of us,'” she said.

She also sent out a positive message. And on this day, Norika was showing her husband that she was doing her best for him.

Maybe a little too much.

Since it was the first day of the show, many patrons were expected to attend the performance. The actors have a quota of tickets, and my wife has the job of selling them. The tickets in the big bag were probably waiting outside the theater for the patrons and were given to them in person,” said a Kabuki-za insider.

Was Kika apologizing for Ainosuke’s absence? She bowed politely and repeatedly to each of them. One of the wives of one of the wives of the nashien (the theatrical company) had this to say about this series of actions by Kika.

「彼女の行動がパフォーマンスだと感じる方もいるかもしれませんが、彼女が立っていた場所はあまり人目につかない少し隠れた場所なんです。 She’s always there, handing out tickets to her patrons. To be honest, her energy is one of the most amazing things. I think she goes a little overboard when it comes to her “duties as a wife in the Ewen family.

Norika herself is extremely busy with her upcoming stage production of “Sazae-san” (Meiji-za), which opens on June 5. Nothing seems to be able to stop the momentum of the most dashing couple in the world of show business.

She politely greeted each and every one of her loyal customers who visited her.
It only lasted about 10 minutes, but she was surrounded by many of her loyal customers.
