An actress with a global presence
On February 7 (local time), the Critics Choice Awards (CCA) was held in California, USA. Considered a precursor to the Academy Awards, this prestigious event saw actress Moeka Hoshi (29) win the award for Best Supporting Actress.
“This year marked the 30th edition of the CCA, which is one of the major awards alongside the Emmys and Golden Globes. The drama SHOGUN in which Hoshi appeared made history by receiving nominations in a record 18 categories at the Emmys and winning four awards at the Golden Globes.
Additionally, Hiroyuki Sanada (64) and Tadanobu Asano (51) gained attention for winning Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. At the CCA, Hoshi triumphed over Hollywood heavyweights like Nicole Kidman (57) to claim the Best Supporting Actress award,” said a reporter from a sports newspaper’s entertainment section.
Hoshi first gained recognition in 2016 when she won the Grand Prix in Miss iD 2016 and made her drama debut the following year in 100 Million Yen Women (TV Tokyo). This January, she appeared in dramas such as TRUE COLORS (NHK) and Bansan Blues (TV Tokyo). In SHOGUN, she gave a captivating performance as the wife of the English navigator John Blackthorne (Miura Anjin), solidifying her name both domestically and internationally.
