Junichi Okada Spotted Picking Up a High-Protein Bento!
A shy smile over a high-protein bento
One afternoon in mid-February, a luxury car pulled up along a main road in Roppongi, Tokyo. Stepping out from the driver’s seat was Junichi Okada (44). Dressed in a relaxed-fit jacket and pants, with his signature rugged beard, he made his way to a nearby restaurant.
“The restaurant is well-known as a go-to spot for muscle enthusiasts, serving high-protein, low-calorie meals. It has several locations in Tokyo and is frequented by big names like Japan’s rugby star Keita Inagaki (34), MMA fighter Ayaka Hamasaki (42), and comedian/bodybuilder Nakayama Kinnikun (46),” a sports journalist revealed.
Okada seemed to be a regular himself, as he quickly picked up a pre-ordered takeout bento and left.
On February 11, the TBS documentary series Jounetsu Tairiku announced on its official X account that Okada would be featured in a two-part special airing on March 2 and 9. The 33-second teaser video showed him training in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu dojo, practicing grappling techniques and push-ups. His voiceover reflected his mindset:
“Pushing myself to the limit is what saves me.”
“Okada’s upcoming Netflix period drama Ikusagami, where he serves as the lead actor, producer, and action planner, is set for a global release this November. Filming wrapped last fall, featuring intense battle scenes that could have easily led to serious injuries. In an interview, Okada stated, ‘If my body makes it through, this will be an extraordinary film’ (Netflix Newsroom). Fortunately, it seems he completed filming without incident, raising expectations even higher,” a film journalist commented.
Returning to his car with a bento in hand, Okada was greeted by a customer from the restaurant. Flashing a shy smile, he seemed slightly embarrassed by the attention. Perhaps he was off to refuel with protein before heading straight to the dojo.
