“I love it. It’s the best.”

“It’s not Shohei, but when I walk around the city, it feels like everyone knows who I am.”

On February 1 (U.S. time), the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team of Shohei Ohtani (30), hosted “DodgerFest 2025” at Dodger Stadium. Mookie Betts (32), one of the Dodgers’ superstar players who had first visited Japan in mid-January, was asked about his impression of Japan during his visit and responded as above:

“Best. It’s the best.”

He repeated these words while talking about his impression of Japan. During his visit, Betts was spotted around noon on January 21, walking hand in hand with his wife, Brianna, through the Ameyoko shopping street and the bustling area around Ueno in Tokyo.

“Betts and Brianna met when Betts was 14 and Brianna was 11, during middle school. They’ve been in a pure love relationship for 15 years and got married in December 2021. They have one son and one daughter. The purpose of this visit was to interact with fans through events sponsored by the team and baseball lessons at elementary schools,” said a sports newspaper reporter.

On this day, Betts was scheduled to attend a press conference for team sponsor Itoen’s “O~i Ocha,” but it seems he was enjoying a stroll with Brianna through Ameyoko just before the event. Betts wore a Dodgers blue hoodie, black sweatpants, and a knit hat with his initials “MB.” He walked with Brianna, who was looking around curiously, holding her hand tightly. His gentlemanly behavior caught the attention of passersby. As Betts mentioned at the press conference, “It felt like everyone knew who I was.” But with his outfit, it was clear—many people were surprised and turned to look at him.

Even at Horiemon’s store

During his visit, he ventured into areas like Shibuya and Harajuku, and also visited the members-only wagyu restaurant “WAGYUMAFIA,” founded by Takafumi Horie (52) and others. On January 29, Betts updated his Instagram, commenting:

“Seeing the smiles on children’s faces and witnessing the impact baseball is having on the world was truly amazing. I also love Japanese culture and food. I can’t wait to come back.”

He praised Japan highly. He will return to Japan on March 18 and 19 to play against the Chicago Cubs at Tokyo Dome. At this rate, just like last year, it seems certain that he and Ohtani will make a stellar 1-2 combo.
