Shohei Hino
Passed away on November 14 at the age of 75

Hino was interviewed by “Young Ladies” in 1973. In the 1970s, he had many affairs with famous actresses and left behind a legend of popularity in the Showa era.

I’ll never forget that he got mad at me once.
Hideo Nakano (actor)

I met Mr. Hino 37 years ago when he introduced me to him during the filming of the detective drama “Jungle” (NTV). He was kind to me, even though I was not yet a successful actor. I think it was that kindness to the core that gave birth to the legend of his popularity. He treated older women and younger women alike without distinction, and was as pure as a child. He even brought a big dog to the set because “it looked lonely and unsold.

Hino-san, who was kind to me until the end of his life, was once angry with me. On the opening day of a play I was playing the lead role in and producing, I was so exhausted that I fell asleep on a bench backstage during preparations, and Mr. Hino, who had come to see the play, called me over. You are the chairperson, right? Everyone is working hard to get you excited. You’re napping at a time like this. He looked me in the eye with a sad face and said, “I’m so sorry. I could only say, “I’m so sorry. Since then, I have been more conscious of how I am perceived by others in my work. I will never forget what Mr. Hino taught me.
