<p> Ogura announced that he had bladder cancer in 2004. He distinguished himself as a horse race play-by-play announcer, and was scouted by Ohashi Kioizumi to become a freelance announcer. However, for a while after becoming a freelance announcer, he had no work, and he was constantly behind in paying taxes, child-support payments to his ex-wife, and utility bills.</p>
<p> However, he began to attract attention for his narration on &#8220;Tamiya RC Grand Prix&#8221; (TV Tokyo) and &#8220;World Marugoto HOW Match&#8221; (Mainichi Broadcasting System), and as a reporter on &#8220;The Hiroshi Ogawa Show. As a radio personality, he also became popular for his skillful speaking skills and became a personality for daytime band programs such as &#8220;Tokoton Kikinaru 11:00&#8221; (Bunka Hoso), which led to his appointment as a host for TV information programs.</p>
