The defendant is accused of committing an extremely vicious crime by assaulting and killing an infant who was unable to resist.

At a jury trial held at the Yokohama District Court on December 24, the prosecution concluded that the defendant committed the crime and sought a 12-year prison sentence.

The defendant, unemployed Masaya Uchida, 32, is charged with manslaughter and other crimes. In January 2006, Uchida is alleged to have fatally abused the 4-year-old son of a woman he was dating at the time, A, in an apartment in Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama City.

Ms. A also appeared at the trial and pleaded, ‘I will not tell the truth until the end. I am angry at the defendant for not telling the truth until the very end. I want the sentence to be as long as possible. The defense, on the other hand, has argued for acquittal, saying, ‘There is a possibility that (B-kun) died due to a phlegm blockage or a fall from the sofa.

The opinions of the prosecution and the defense differ sharply in this case. We would like to look back on the details of the crime, explaining Uchida’s distorted black hatred that lay behind it, based on the opinions of experts.

I want to break up with him because he beats my child.

The signs of the incident were there even four months before B-kun’s death. It is believed that defendant Uchida had repeatedly assaulted B-kun before.’ In September 2005, Ms. A had consulted the police about Uchida’s abuse.

‘Ms. A took Mr. B with her and told the police, “My live-in partner beats my child and I want to leave him. Mr. B, whose forehead was badly swollen, also said, ‘I am afraid of being hit. Later that day, the police interviewed Uchida voluntarily. He admitted that he had hit him, but denied any intention to abuse him, saying that he had hit him to scold him,” said a reporter from the society section of a national newspaper.

The police also reported the incident to the Child Guidance Center (Koso). The police also reported the case to the Child Guidance Center (Koso), which visited the home several times, but was unable to prevent the incident.

In January ’18, Uchida himself made the following 119 call. In January 2006, Uchida himself called 119 and said, “I heard a thud from the room where my child was playing. He is unconscious. By the time paramedics arrived at the scene, B-kun was already in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest. Mr. A was out of town for work, and Uchida and B were alone in the apartment.

The cause of death was cerebral edema caused by a cervical cord injury from the strong force applied to the neck and head from the front and back. Several doctors who treated the child insisted that there was “little likelihood of accidental death. On the other hand, the defendant Uchida repeatedly contradicted himself when interviewed by the police, saying that ‘B-kun fell down and hit his head’ and ‘Uchida was in another room and did not see him’.

Imagining the past of the woman he was dating.

In August 2010, approximately four years after the incident, the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s Investigation Division finally arrested Uchida on suspicion of manslaughter. This magazine photographed the defendant being sent to the police station for examination. The magazine photographed Uchida as he was being sent to the police station, revealing graphic tattoos on both arms.

Taihei Ogawa, a former Kanagawa Prefectural Police detective and crime journalist, explains the background of why it took so long to arrest him and Uchida’s twisted, black psychology.

He said, “Supposedly, Ms. A, a former boyfriend of Mr. B, agreed to the investigation and provided information such as medical certificates and images of Mr. B’s injuries. The abuse allegedly committed by the defendant Uchida must have taken time to prove because there was little evidence because it took place in a closed room alone with Mr. B. The defendant’s actions were not in violation of the law, and the evidence was not sufficient to prove the abuse. Unfortunately, the lack of evidence has led to some cases in which the assaults have been smothered and the deaths have been ruled accidental.

According to the indictment, it seems that Uchida had distorted feelings toward B-kun. For Uchida, B-kun would be the child of Ms. A’s ex-boyfriend or ex-husband. She may have harbored hatred toward B-kun as the “alter ego” of a man whom she had been in a relationship with in the past. I once spoke to a man who abused his stepdaughter. He said, ‘I love children, but when I see my stepdaughter, I imagine the past of the woman I was in a relationship with, and I end up raising my hand to her. ‘ It is a selfish sentiment and an argument that should never be tolerated.”

The verdict in Uchida’s trial, mentioned at the beginning of this article, is scheduled to be handed down on January 21.
