On December 15, the Takaido Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Yasutaka Yoneda, 44, of Suginami Ward, Tokyo, on suspicion of violating the Law Punishing the Taking of Sexual Images (photography). The suspect is an employee of the Ministry of Finance and a specially-appointed associate professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Tokyo Metropolitan University (Hachioji City).

Yoneda is an expert in public finance, having studied at Hitotsubashi University’s graduate school after graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan University.” He joined the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau in April 2005 as a national tax specialist. After working at the Ministry of Finance’s Policy Research Institute, he taught international finance at Tokyo Metropolitan University from April ’24. He has published numerous articles and achievements, including “Future Estimates of Welfare Expenses” and “Analysis of Mortgage Interest Rates.

The alleged incident that led to his arrest occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. on October 23, ’24.

I don’t remember.”

The location is Minami-Osawa Station on the Keio Sagamihara Line, the closest station to Tokyo Metropolitan University. Yoneda allegedly held his phone up to the skirt of Ms. A, a woman in her 20s standing in front of him on the escalator and took a picture of her underwear; Ms. A was unaware that she was being voyeuristically photographed.

However, a few days later, Yoneda got into trouble for taking a voyeuristic picture of another woman, Ms. B, at a train station in Suginami Ward. Ms. B complained to the police, saying, ‘I was photographed without permission. The police, who were consulted, checked the suspect’s smartphone and found images of Ms. A that they believed were taken of her, leading to her arrest. This led to his arrest this time.

Yoneda was arrested on suspicion of taking a series of voyeuristic photos of Ms. A. When questioned by the police, he said, “I don’t remember. He has denied the charges, saying “I don’t remember” when questioned by the police.

A photographer for this magazine photographed Yoneda being sent to a public prosecutor’s office on December 17, immediately after his arrest. His eyes were vacant and he appeared depressed and exhausted.

Perhaps unable to control his own desires, the suspect Yoneda has lost his social status as a financial expert. …… The police are also investigating his extra crimes.
